Kevin Costner, the guest on this year’s Cannes Film Festival live episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, is one of the most admired actors and filmmakers of his time, and has been for some 40 years, with credits to his name including The Untouchables, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, Dances with Wolves, JFK, The Bodyguard, Hatfiels & McCoys and Yellowstone.
This week, the two-time Oscar winner, 69, came to Cannes to premiere the first installment of what is arguably his most ambitious project yet: Horizon, a four-film Western epic that he co-wrote, produced, directed, stars in and largely self-financed — indeed, he contributed $38 million of the $100 million total budget. (Warner Bros. will release Chapter 1 on June 28 and Chapter 2 on Aug. 16.)

Kevin Costner was at the top of his career back in 1992, having climbed the ladder of success with his critically acclaimed Dances with Wolves. Meanwhile, pop star Whitney Houston was busy making her way to the top with her magical voice and electric personality. And in true Hollywood fashion, despite orbiting in their own spheres, Costner and Whitney came together in the 1990s to create an iconic masterpiece that still resonates with the audience, The Bodyguard.

Throughout his entire career, Kevin Costner has starred in multiple award-winning projects, a majority of which have earned tremendous acclaim, like Yellowstone. But one of his works met with such extraordinary heights of success that all his other pieces are yet to surpass. This project is none other than his Western masterpiece directorial debut movie from 1990, Dances with Wolves.

Not only did this film grant him three of his first-ever and only Oscar nominations and two wins, but it also launched him as a household name in the entertainment industry. But as much as his directing and acting skills played a major role in the film’s success, the truth is that the 1990 masterpiece just may have never been made had it not been for Costner’s ‘pain in the a—’ friend Michael Blake!

Music is one of the main keys to the success of a movie, as it helps to set the tone and enhances the viewers’ experience. It can even happen that films become overshadowed by the songs written and recorded specifically for them, and people tend to forget that they were originally soundtracks that lost any association with their origins.
Here are 5 dramas surpassed in popularity by their music themes, according to Reddit.
Dangerous Minds (1995)
Michelle Pfeiffer’s underrated gem presumably comes first in this respect, as everybody knows Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio, while the movie is unfairly forgotten. In fact, the story of a teacher taking up a job in East Palo Alto, a racially segregated and economically deprived city, is worth a try, apart from its cultish main song.
Chariots of Fire (1981)
“More people know the chariots of fire song than have actually seen the movie,” fairly admits @goldbloodedinthe404.

Aside from being one of the biggest cinema events in the year, the Cannes Film Festival is also a big market where filmmakers pitch their projects to potential buyers and where many deals are made. We have already reported on the endeavors – some successful, some not (yet) – of the filmmakers in Cannes to find distributors (e.g. Megalopolis or The Monkey), and we are now going to discuss yet another story from the film festival, related to a movie we have already reported on.

Do you think drama just stays on screen in the entertainment industry? Well, no…sometimes, it can seep into the behind-the-scenes operations of some of our favorite shows. Kevin Costner, the celebrated actor known for his roles in films like Dances with Wolves and The Bodyguard, has found himself at the forefront of some recent production troubles with his hit TV series, Yellowstone.
Yellowstone [Credit: Paramount Network]Apart from a few remarks made earlier this year, in which he delighted fans by expressing interest in returning for a potential sixth season, Costner has stayed silent about the conflict. But, in a recent chat with Deadline, the California-born actor, 69, shared his own serialized story as he gets ready to debut the first chapter of Horizon: An American Saga at Cannes.

Kevin Costner would often like to imagine himself as a one-man army, if possible, who is capable of handling almost every single hurdle and blockade thrown in his direction with utmost precision and decisiveness. This character trait may also be the reason why the Hollywood actor makes choices bold enough to surpass even Quentin Tarantino when it comes to sequel treatment in films.

Where one might look to find Kill Bill Vol. 2, Jaws 2, and Back to the Future Part II, Kevin Costner stands firm on the prospect of sequels insomuch that he would not even dare to touch his Oscar-winning property, Dances With Wolves, that he himself directed, produced, and starred in.

After years of starring as the iconic head of the Dutton family, i.e. John Dutton in Yellowstone, Kevin Costner has left the fan-favorite show, though it wasn’t without much drama intervening in between. However, this twisted tale is even more complex than Taylor Sheridan’s saga, considering how it has taken yet another surprising turn about whom to blame for his exit.

Stunningly enough, as compared to all the other reasons that stated that a feud ensuing between him and Sheridan was the real reason why he left, this time, Costner has set the record straight through one statement that has inevitably implied that the mastermind showrunner Sheridan is actually not the one to blame for his exit, but rather the studios are.

The Golden Raspberry is one of the most important industry anti-prizes. Every year, the worst movies of the season are nominated for it: from failed blockbusters to dramas that look more like comedies. But often the winners are simply misunderstood masterpieces.
Some of these underrated films were chosen by Reddit users.
1. The Blair Witch Project, 1999
Can you believe it? The movie that changed the horror industry was nominated for the Golden Raspberry Anti-Award in the category Worst Picture. Maybe, from a certain point of view, even this kind of PR benefits the movie, but to be honest, The Blair Witch Project had no chance to "win" that year – it was up against Adam Sandler's Big Daddy, The Haunting, and Will Smith's Wild Wild West.

Last year, news broke out that Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone will end with its fifth season, whose second half is slated to premiere later this year. This was apparently due to Kevin Costner bidding goodbye to his role as the Dutton patriarch in the acclaimed western, with sources citing the alleged tension between Costner and Sheridan as the reason.
But long before the alleged behind-the-scenes drama surfaced, the duo had a back-and-forth in season 2, with Sheridan revealing the Golden Globe winner was very upset.

Zendaya’s seemingly futuristic body armor actually has a long history steeped in cinema and pop culture.

Ariana Grande and Bowen Young could not keep it together during a sketch on Saturday Night Live tonight.
The pair brought to life songs that did not make it into the hit film Moulin Rouge which included “Up Where We Belong,” originally sung by Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker; “Do-Re-Mi” by Julie Andrews; “Creep” by TLC; “Happy Birthday”; and “Pride (In the Name of Love)” by U2 among others.
While they made it nearly all the way through the sketch before breaking character, Yang began to lose focus while performing Shania Twain’s hit song “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” He continued to have a fit of giggles as he and Grande sang “Happy Birthday” for the umpteenth time leading the latter also to break character. Elvis Presley was known as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, but he wasn’t known for his musings on the afterlife. Regardless, Elvis’ girlfriend said that he had some strong opinions on heaven. He was influenced by one denomination of Christianity in particular. Notably, Priscilla Presley feels she has had spiritual experiences with Elvis well after his death.
Elvis Presley thought the afterlife was open to non-Christians
Linda Thompson was Elvis’ girlfriend from 1972 to 1976. She would later become a professional songwriter. She might be most known for penning Whitney Houston’s classic ballad “I Have Nothing” from the soundtrack of The Bodyguard. More recently, that song has been covered by Ariana Grande.
In her 2016 book A Little Thing Called Life, Thompson described the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll as a Christian with an inclusive theology. “Elvis was very humble about his place in the cosmos and had an abiding faith in Jesus,...

Apple TV+ has added more than 50 licensed movies included in the price of the subscription service — the streamer’s biggest collection of back-catalog studio content to date. But the third-party titles will only be available for a limited time.
Apple TV+’s lineup has mostly comprised original series, movies and specials commissioned for the platform (as well as a smattering of live MLB games). Now it has added a bouquet of older film favorites to the mix, including popular and award-winning movies like “Titanic,” “300,” “Argo,” “Black Hawk Down,” “The Bodyguard,” “Jurassic World,” “Gravity,” “Fast & Furious 6,” “Kill Bill” Volume 1 and 2, “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” the original 2004 “Mean Girls” and “Zoolander.”
The movies are listed in a new section on the service labeled “Great Movies on Apple TV+” — however, the service notes, these are available for a “limited time.

Credit: Bfa / Warner Bros (Alamy) By 1991, the late Whitney Houston had already conquered the music industry, scoring nine #1 hits, selling more than 50 million albums worldwide, and earning 10 Grammy Awards nominations (winning twice). And while she’d made a few appearances on episodic TV shows — mostly playing herself — an acting career had been something she’d had on her radar for a long time. It looked like that would come to fruition when she was approached to play the lead role in The Bodyguard, a film that had been in development for many years. As much as she wanted to land a movie, though, Houston almost turned down the role. When the movie was initially released in 1992, she said it was her co-star, Kevin Costner, who ultimately convinced her to make the film. Streamer regulation in the UK will not come into place in full for two years, Ofcom said today.
Delivering its roadmap for implementing the Media Bill, which includes the regulation of major U.S. streamers for the first time, the UK regulator said it will spend the next year hosting roundtable discussions on the subject and putting together a report on the state of the VoD market for the government.
Ofcom will simultaneously start working on a draft code that will set out the regulation and which streamers are to be regulated – referred to as ‘Tier 1 services.’
Once the code is complete, those falling within it will have a 12-month grace period before they have to be “in full compliance,” which means they won’t have to abide by it in full until 2026.
Ofcom said it “proposes to use this period to consult on and finalise new procedures for the handling and resolution of complaints.

Star-crossed lovers, hopeless romantics, or just unlucky in love. Valentine’s Day films are not just about head-over-heels happy endings. That would be a bit on the boring side. The films that have captivated the romantic genre are the ones about heartache, bad timing, yearning and the strong forces that keep true lovers apart.
William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Rick and Ilsa, portrayed by Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, from Casablanca, and Chow Mo-wan & Su Li-zhen from In the Mood For Love all have to overcome their hearts’ desire as forces they can’t control keep them apart as time and fate lead to their ultimate betrayal.

The mid-nineties were a period of transition for Jet Li. Having made his name in period martial arts pieces during the aftermath of the new wave, the saturation point had been reached and stepping into the modern action movie was inevitable. Initial forays had been limited in their success (Dragon Fight & The Master) and it wasn't until the shameless “The Bodyguard” rip-off “Bodyguard from Beijing” in 1994 that he began to get accepted in this genre. “The Enforcer” to give “My Father is a Hero” its generic western release title was a reunion of star and director, only this time with added familial drama with a script co-written by Wong Jing. As Eureka Entertainment releases its “Heroes and Villain's” box set, it's time to revisit this transitional period of the star and see how it holds up today.

The UK’s long-gestating Media Bill, which includes regulation of streaming services in line with broadcasters for the first time, has finally been rubberstamped in the King’s Speech.
King Charles III has just laid out the various laws that will now make their way through parliament – in the process becoming the first King to do so in seven decades – which features the long-awaited Media Bill. The speech is devised by the UK Prime Minister and read out by the monarch in a centuries-old ceremony in parliament.
Published earlier this year, the headline policy in the Media Bill is a move to bring the U.S. streamers under Ofcom’s regulatory framework, which would mean they can be fined up to £250,000 or restricted in the UK entirely if they break rules around harmful material that have applied to the public broadcasters for decades.

I didn’t bring my stilts,” dad-jokes Lindsey Buckingham as he eyes Omar Apollo, all six feet five of him. Apollo lets out a chuckle as he leans against the recording console, where Buckingham’s band, Fleetwood Mac, happened to have made Tusk 45 years ago.
Buckingham, a 74-year-old guitar hero, might seem an odd pairing for a 26-year-old Mexican American star who makes tear-jerking alt-r&b. But as Apollo, who asked Buckingham to join him for Musicians on Musicians, puts it: “I got layers, you know?” (That’s evident as...

At long last, Crossroads is back. It’s the answer to a Britney Spears fan’s prayers. Britney’s 2002 movie-star showcase is finally returning to the big screen for two nights, on Oct. 23 and 25, to go with her new tell-all memoir, The Woman in Me, which drops on Oct. 24. Crossroads was a box-office smash at the time, but it’s been scandalously unavailable for years — most fans have never gotten the chance to see it since it’s not streaming anywhere. This movie has been hidden away for far too long.

Dolly Parton has revamped the hit song “Wrecking Ball” by her goddaughter Miley Cyrus!
The legendary entertainer sings a new version of the track for her upcoming album Rockstar, and she is of course joined by the 30-year-old singer for a duet.

At the end of the song, instead of singing the lyrics “I will always want you,” it transitions into “I will always love you,” Dolly‘s mega-hit song that Whitney Houston made super famous in the movie The Bodyguard.
