Love Story, Extraordinaire
ebiros25 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This is a series that's carried almost entirely by the three casts (Yui Natsukawa, Etsushi Toyokawa, Ann Suzuki) that play the starring role in the first half of the story.

Yoshimori Shibata (Etsushi Toyokawa) is a plain railway worker in a small town of Kiyosu. One day he meets Kaori Tamura (Yui Natsukawa), and her daughter Shiori (Ann Suzuki). Kaori had Shiori with her previous husband, but due to domestic violence, she moved out and was working as a hostess at a bar to support herself and Shiori. Kaori is now married to Hiromu Watanuki. Hiromu found Kaori at the bar and fell head over heels in love with her. He had his father pay Kaori's ex-husband for divorce, and they got married. But after meeting Yoshimori, Kaori has a change of heart, and decides to elope with Yoshimori. Hiromu, furious over Kaori's betrayal, reports to the police that Yoshimori kidnapped Kaori. Now on the run, Yoshimori, Kaori, and Shiori moves from town to town avoiding detection by Hiromu, and the police, but soon Hiromu catches up to them. Under duress, Kaori commits suicide, and Yoshimori is sent to prison for 6 years. 6 years later, Shiori (Maiko Yamada), now a teenager comes to see Yoshinori. Shiori was in love with Yoshimori too since she first met him. Yoshimori ignoring the restraint order elopes again with Shiori, and is sent back to prison for another 4 years. After some years has past, in a tropical island paradise we find Shiori, her daughter (Ann Suzuki), and Yoshimori living together as a family.

It's an extraordinary story where both mother, and daughter falls in love with the same man, and the man and the daughter eventually gets married. But the focus of the story is that the three stars in respective roles seems to be chosen for their quality to be heart throbs. Yui Natsukawa gathered attention for her stunning beauty when she played this role. Both Ann Suzuki, and Etsushi Toyokawa are also very attractive individuals. With so many beautiful casts, people watching can emphasize with the character's romantic feelings. While core of the story is built on cliff hangers (literally in some scenes), the romance in the early, and latter parts are beautiful. And the final ending serves as fulfillment of individual's longings that spanned two generations.

It's an unusual story told beautifully, and recommended for viewing.
