A routine investigation into two men in a car ends with PC Graham blinded by pepper spray. The man who escape is punchy boxer Sammy McKenna. Arrested for attempted murder he gives up dangerous warehouse robbers; the Gibbs brothers.
A vagrant leads PC's Smith and Weir to an abandoned car at the docks. The car is registered to Leonard Poole and contains a suicide note. Poole was under investigation for fraud and his wife's reaction makes DCI Barlow suspicious.
D.S. Lynch finds his first snout but his information fragmentary. Z Victor Two tail a dust cart team siphoning off valuables. Z Victor One watches an empty house which a London gang are using as a base for robberies in the area.
Mrs Fielding collapses after caught stealing cough medicine in Clayton Brothers. She is dying but won't go to hospital. Jock Weir discovers the cough medicine bottles have a high content of morphine but her daughter still won't see her.
PC's Baker and Graham catch two men taking cigarettes, alcohol and slot machines from a club in Seaport. The leader gets away. DCI Barlows allows Lynch to follow a hunch, in London, but sends the two PC's to all junk yard in the area.
The Saturday Night Gang have pulled off robberies of white goods, in bulk, from warehouses in Seaport. Joe and Rob attempt a smash grab at Clark's. PC's Smith and Weir hear the window break and straight into the Saturday Night Gang.
PC Fancy Smith finds himself out of his depth when he answers a 999 call. Mrs Keston is a victim of an attack by neighbour Mrs Hulme. She acting erratically and become a danger to herself. Fancy struggles to talk her around.
DC Lynch is sent to an allotment, where a man known as "Old George" has been murdered. Det. Supt. Prentiss takes charge and his has his own ideas. He tells DCI Barlow to remove Lynch from the case for daring disagree strategy.

Lock keeper Towser reports someone removed a package from a coal barge. D.C. Lynch investigation is hindered when Towser gets intimidated. A witness is found who knows the culprit so a trap is set to catch the smugglers.
Terry Greenhalgh enters employers Mercer's, moving stock around. When the police leave he does it again. Sgt Watt is sent to arrest him but allows his probation officer to persuade Terry to surrender going against DCI Barlow's orders.
Jock Weir starts to become concerned that his friend Andy Cameron intends to track down former girlfriend Sheila when comes down for the match. Cameron is looking to inflict harm on Sheila and new boyfriend Paul Cowan.
Distressed 11-year-old Jane Amber reports her father beaten to a pulp. Her mother berates his lack of class but Jane picks out Eric Blanker, an enforcer for bookmaker Bob Bowler. Mrs Amber likes Bowler because he has class.
PC's Smith and Graham are called to Andrews Cafe to deal with an abandoned baby after the mother flees to London. Councillor Walker demands action after residents complain about children stealing their gates.
Sgt. Blackitt sends out officers with radio's for the first time. Unfortunately they share the same frequency as a pair of safe breakers are using during a break in. PC Taylor is blown up when he unwittingly activates their explosives.
A milkman reports a seeing a man on the ledge of derelict warehouse. He won't speak to police so Bert Lynch acts as passerby to talk him down. When PC Graham finds the proceeds of a robbery it becomes obvious this is no suicide attempt.
The Phillips brothers target Cohen's the Jewellers in a smash and grab raid. They escape in a stolen Morris 1100. The car's owner warns the police that it contains a Cobra snake in a case which Harold Phillips can't resist looking in.
Tommy Schofield has just been released from prison and his wife's lover is found badly beaten. His home is trashed and his wife vanished. He is arrested but there is no body or the stolen Ford Anglia used to move his murdered wife.
Richie plans a raid to grab £19,000 of Holiday Share Out money, leaving Seaport. Beth Brogan drives a decoy car to Crewe to confuse police. When she turns down his advances he decides to steal her share but under estimates her mother.
Housebreaker George Stratton is mixing with dubious antique dealers. Next night, Stratton's car crashes and PC Baker discovers hidden antiques. A race is on to discover the owner before the dealer Frank Burroughs can legally taken them.
Two masked raiders take part in a brutal home home invasion. Henry McNeil is later released from Strangeways and Barlow suspects he may have planned it. A tough nut to crack, Barlow needs to out think him to get him to give up their names.
Market Superintendant Samuel Fitton and his deputy John Pitcher's relationship is toxic. Pitcher reports Fitton for fiddling the number of stalls in use and keeping the money. Fitton admits guilt but is determined bring down Pitcher.
Tramps, Cole and Murrie are seen back in Newtown. Police are baffled when Cole dials 999 to get help for a French au pair but clears out. DC Lynch is tracking the source obscene material in the area and learns why Cole has departed.
Former church warden Frank Jordan, who was jailed for embezzlement, has escaped prison and back in Newtown with a gun, firing two shots into his wife's ceiling. PC Ken Baker's last day following his promotion to sergeant.
