There's something fishy about this noble woman!

Warning: Spoilers
Polly Moran is a select taste, well known today to classic movie fans because of her pairing with the ultra popular Marie Dressler in a series of hit comedies from the mid 20's through 1932. She doesn't have the durability of Dressler and in the film comes off a bit harsh as opposed to the larger than life Dressler whose huge heart won over depression era audiences. Here, Moran's a fish peddler whose daughter wants to marry into society. The potential father-in-law (Vernon Dent) has a run-in with Moran in public, so the frantic Moran must disguise herself which ends up in disaster. There are some very funny moments, but it's thanks to the situations, not Moran, who is as crass here as she was in those films with Dressler. The ending, however, is hysterical.

Don't remember much but found it HILARIOUS!

About half a century ago, I saw "Oh, Duchess! on television, and loved it. I do not remember a LOT of it,but did find it hilarious. What I recall most about this short was the opening scene, with an accordionist playing "Funiculi, Funicula" on the dock, near where the Duchess, Polly Moran, peddled fish. Though there was no special reason why that tune was chosen, I found "Funiculi, Funicula" among my favorites, as boy and as man. I also remember the scene where Polly threw a fish at someone. All I remember about her was that she was a character and a half. Yes, the movie was all about her appearing to be a real duchess; I do not remember enough about the movie to determine whether she was just showing off. Whatever, the movie was quite amusing.
