There is little of the taste of true life in this story and, though, of course, it is only a tale, the ethics of its characters is not exactly normal. It is also too unconvincing to be effective as a tale. Yet it is full of incidents and in particular there is a novel and well-handled mob scene, although the meaning of the mob is not clear enough to give a punch to the situation. The photography is clear. - The Moving Picture World, March 14, 1914
