A most unusual ad for the lovelorn.

I saw this Andy Clyde short on YouTube and it clocked in at 16:36, not 20:00. It is possible that portions had been cut from the version I saw...or else the run time listed on IMDB is not correct.

The story is a long flashback, as Andy tells a friend just why he hates eggs. Apparently, one day he was busy TRYING to cook for himself when he noticed a personals ad...one the egg he was about to crack. Apparently, this woman ran an egg business and hoped this would get her a husband. Well, Andy is interested and soon they marry. Only AFTER they marry does she say that she 'failed to mention' that she had a boy. That boy is played by Tommy Bond, a young actor who specialized in playing awful punks or brats (such as in the Our Gang comedies). And, try to his prior casting, Tommy is a really awful kid...and his mother won't let Andy discipline the brat. Their marriage is a huge mistake and Andy is miserable.

This is much better than the average Andy Clyde short from Columbia. I think a lot of the reason is the addition of Bond...an excellent foil for Andy. Well worth seeing and actually funny...something you can't say about many of these comedies.

By the way, to see Clyde at his best, try some of the Hopalong Cassidy films. Clyde plays Hoppy's sidekick in the majority of them and he was much more effective as a sidekick than as a comic.
