One Man's Meat is something that might had worked as a sketch for The Two Ronnies but is dragged out to a thirty minute sit com and frankly it does not work and outstays its welcome.

Barker plays Alan Joyce a man who loves to eat and has waistline to show for it. His wife (Prunella Scales) hatches a plan to make him lose weight and keep him off food for a day while she goes out.

She goes out and leaves the house empty of food but also empties his hiding places and takes his clothes so he is literally left with nothing.

Frustrated he rings the local Chinese takeaway but they are under instructions not to give him food and then he has an idea when the cleaning lady comes round to sneak out of the house.

Its a game of cat and mouse between husband and wife as Alan has some sneaky tricks to get food and his wife has out-thought him. Scales does not seem too far away from Sybil, her persona from Fawlty Towers but the comedy runs out of steam as it was more suited as an elongated sketch.
