One excellent TV novella
margaretha-214 October 2005
Brilliantly executed. Love Martin Caballero, you got to, really; you get to see his metamorphosis from absolute cretin businessman into a lovable human being. In fact, in this novella the men have better traits on the whole than the women; though for me la Niñantonia is one of the best characters ever seen. It's one of my all time favourites. The writers really captured the gist of magic realism, the priest role is quite enthralling, his conception of Catholicism quite pragmatic and down to earth and really leaves you thinking that this faith should have more priests like father Julian. The town major is fantastic, though I'm partial to that particular actress, any which way you see it, Teresa Gutierrez really excelled at it as Juana Montes; she's anything but a sweet lovable granny, poor Pompilio, I feel for him! Charo I couldn't help but love, even though her deep rooted hatred was abundantly steady through out; abundant, steady and with a solid base, her motives for hatred are clearly outlined and analysed. Brilliant dancer, as well. The one big shame is that there is hardly anything related to this novella on the web......... as with many Colombian novellas to tell the truth.
