It's Funnier To Punch Snub Pollard
boblipton16 August 2020
Eddie Baker thinks his wife is stepping out on him with Snub, who's in the wrong place at the wrong time: waiting at his place of employment so he won't be late to work and fired.

Most of Snub's one-reelers for Roach were marvels of gags with enough of a story between them to get from one joke to another. There's some of that here, but mostly it's a series of events to get Snub from one pounding by Baker to the next. It's funny, but not his best.

Keep an eye out for George Rowe. He's the blank-looking comic who fetches a cup of coffee for Snub, and who looks just as out of it when coming out of a coffee shop as he does knocked unconscious.

Poor Snub.

You really have to feel sorry for Snub Pollard's character in "Punch the Clock". A woman is cheating on her very jealous husband. He finds out and incorrectly assume the guy is Snub...and he's prepared to kill the guy. What's Snub to do?! Well, run of course, as the husband is a large and angry man...with a gun!! And, hopefully, through it all Snub will STILL be able to get to work on time!

This is a pretty mindless but also pretty funny short. While it's not among Pollard's best ("It's a Gift") it's very pleasant and well worth your time.

It's interesting that in the credits it lists Charles Parrott (Charley Chase) as 'supervising' this production. While he directed many films for Hal Roach, I assume in this case he was either the gag writer or producer...or both.
