To celebrate “Halfway to Halloween,” MGM+ has released a first look at the anticipated third season of the hit series From. The mystery continues when the show returns this fall.
From unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter. As the unwilling residents fight to maintain a sense of normalcy and search for a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest—including the terrifying creatures that come out when the sun goes down.
Season Two explored just how far the residents of this nightmarish place were willing to go to find answers, even as chilling new threats to their safety – and their sanity – began to emerge.
The series stars Harold Perrineau (Lost) leading an ensemble cast that includes Catalina Sandino Moreno, Eion Bailey, Hannah Cheramy, Simon Webster (Strays), and Ricky He (The Good Doctor).
The cast also includes Chloe Van Landschoot,...

Some of the movies we talk about have opinions fueled by nostalgia if they are good or reputation if they are bad. Of course, everything is subjective when speaking about how you feel about a movie. It can be tied to events in your life that make you happy or sad. You can enjoy it on the strength of an actor, writer, or director you enjoy being involved or hate it for those exact reasons on a creator not being your favorite. Some things are irrefutable though such as box office or critical appraisal. Van Helsing (watch it Here) was the culmination of what Stephen Sommers had been working towards with tales of fantasy like The Adventures of Huck Finn...

The acting ensemble in Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy is nothing short of spectacular. Younger actors including Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom became stars while the cast was peppered with veteran thespians, too, including Sir Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, and John Rhys-Davies.
British actors such as Sean Bean and Andy Serkis, American stars like Sean Astin and Viggo Mortensen, and Australian performers including Cate Blanchett and David Wenham all melded together to breathe life into Middle Earth. The shocking thing, however, is that only one actor landed an Oscar nomination for their work in the esteemed trilogy. That was McKellen, who was nominated in 2002 for playing Gandalf the Grey in the first movie, “The Fellowship of the Ring.” But so many more actors could and should have been nominated for their work in Jackson’s film series. Here are just five such cases.

TV Fanatic had the pleasure of speaking with director David Winning about Hallmark's latest Fall Into Love feature, Field Day.
Winning has a long, successful string of Hallmark movies on his resume, but charming rom-coms weren't his first foray into directing.
Making his mark in the sci-fi genre, directing episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark, Stargate: Atlantis, and Van Helsing, his resume boasts a diverse array of productions that almost seem at odds with the heartfelt Hallmark universe.
So, how did Winning find himself so far from the sci-fi realm? We talked with him about that and much more in our exclusive interview.
For more information on Field Day, please visit our exclusive clip of the delightful movie, which stars Rachel Boston, Benjamin Ayres, Shannon Chen-Kent, and Carmel Amit.

The first decade of Kate Beckinsale’s film career was a stream of dramas, punctuated by the occasional romantic comedy. And then came Underworld. Cast as a vampire assassin, Beckinsale got her first taste of the action genre … and she liked it. With appearances in four Underworld sequels, as well as films like Van Helsing, Contraband, and Total Recall, she gained a reputation as an action star. As Underworld celebrates the 20th anniversary of its release, we recall how Beckinsale — at the time the movie opened — admitted she had no idea whether she was going to be able to pull off the physical demands of being an action star.(Click on the media bar below to hear Kate Beckinsale) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Kate_-Beckinsale_Underwold_.mp3 Underworld is available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and most digital platforms.

“If you’re a horror fan and not watching From, you should get with it. Scary shit,” Stephen King recently tweeted, heaping high praise on a horror series that has really started to find its audience with its second season. The good news? “From” Season 3 is on the way!
MGM+, a premium linear channel and streaming service, announced today that the contemporary sci-fi horror series “From” has been renewed for a 10-episode third season.
Created and executive produced by John Griffin (Crater) and executive produced by showrunner Jeff Pinkner, and director Jack Bender, the series unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter. In the wake of Season Two’s epic cliffhanger, escape will become a tantalizing and very real possibility as the true nature of the town comes into focus, and the townspeople go on offense against the myriad horrors surrounding them. First things first, Fear the Invisible Man is not a sequel to the 2020 version of The Invisible Man although I’m sure the film’s makers won’t mind if you think so. Instead, it’s an adaptation of H.G. Wells’ novel that, unlike most adaptations of his work, keeps the book’s Victorian setting.
Griffin is in a race against time to finish his experiments. The reason, his landlord and a bailiff are pounding on the door, ready to evict him. Injecting himself with it moments before they kick in the door, his flesh and bone vanish and he escapes, though not before causing an explosion that kills them and destroys his lab.
Elsewhere Adeline is disbelievingly reading about a series of crimes supposedly caused by an invisible man.

Stakes, silver-tipped canes, and torches are all dependable ways to kill off the classic Universal Monsters. But the one common, unifying monster-slayer they are all powerless against is poor box office. This was very clearly communicated by the failure of Renfield, Universal’s attempt at resurrecting Dracula and his title sidekick in a modern horror-comedy where Renfield (Nicholas Hoult) acted more like a supernatural superhero than the simpering, wild-eyed Dwight Frye of old.
Not even the Scenery-Chewer Supreme that is Nicolas Cage could save Renfield from a meager $8 million opening weekend haul that saw the movie have its lunch eaten by Russell Crowe in The Pope’s Exorcist. This isn’t the first attempt either in the last 10 or 20 years to drag the undead out of their graves: Van Helsing (2004), The Wolfman (2010), Dracula Untold (2014), and the disastrous The Mummy (2017) all climbed back into the Universal Monsters’ tombs as quickly as possible,...

Some actors spend months preparing for a role, fully embodying their character so that the lines between themselves and the fictional persona on the screen become blurred. It’s safe to say that this wasn’t the approach Hugh Jackman took when he first stepped into the part of Wolverine in Fox’s X-Men franchise. In fact, Jackman was apparently so unprepared for the role of the buff mutant that he had never even lifted weights.

If you were paying attention to James Gunn and Peter Safran's presentation about the future of DC superhero movies, you may have noticed that something sounded familiar.
No, it's not the fact that we're getting new versions of movies we've already seen before, like Superman and Batman and Swamp Thing. And no, we're not even talking about how it's yet another series of gigantic promises about an interconnected universe in a modern pop culture environment that eats almost all of those up and spits them out.
In addition to all the tantalizing, puzzling, and just plain weird news about the future of DC superhero movies, there was also a curious choice for a title. This first chapter of Gunn and Safran's interconnected universe will be called "Gods and Monsters," and that's a very specific title with a very specific history connected to it.

A limited series about the Sandy Hook shooting and the ensuing eight-year legal battle between victims’ families and gun manufacturer Remington Arms has landed at Echo Lake Entertainment. Oscar nominee Robin Swicord (“When They See Us”) and Sarah Koskoff will create the show in consultation with several families directly affected by the tragedy and their attorneys.
Swicord, Koskoff and producer Mary Jane Skalski of Echo Lake Entertainment are teaming as executive producers to tell the story of the Sandy Hook case, which uncovered how a New York private equity firm purchased legacy American gun companies in the mid-2000s, effectively creating the equivalent of Big Pharma in the consumer arms industry. Swicord and Koskoff have followed the case closely and are consulting with several families who brought the lawsuit, as well as their attorney, Josh Koskoff (Sarah Koskoff’s brother).

I remember watching Stephen Sommer’s Van Helsing back when I was 10 years old and thinking to myself “I wish I could play a videogame that felt like this.” Naturally, a little while later I found myself inside a Blockbuster and ended up renting a copy of the PS2 tie-in game of the movie. While that title wasn’t necessarily a masterpiece, it introduced me to the character-action genre, acting as a gateway drug to stronger experiences like God of War and, years later, the O.G. itself – Devil May Cry.
Boasting five mainline entries, a surprisingly decent anime, and even a couple of shout-outs in other IPs, Devil May Cry has become one of Capcom’s hottest properties, and I think part of that is due to the franchise insisting on a particular brand of action-horror that has long been forgotten in other media. That’s why I’d...

Netflix subscribers looking to save some money now have the option to sign up for a cheaper, ad-supported tier. The Basic with Ads plan costs 6.99 per month rather than 9.99 for the basic plan without ads, and gives subscribers access to a decent amount of the streaming service’s extensive library. However, according to Variety and GameSpot, there are a number of TV shows and movies that unfortunately aren’t available to watch for people subscribing to Netflix’s newest tier.
Netflix’s Chief Operating Officer Greg Peters did tell reporters back in October that a “limited number of movies and TV shows won’t be available due to licensing restrictions, and [Netflix is] going to be working on reducing that over time,” but even with the new tier launching Nov. 3, Netflix still hasn’t released an official list showing what is and isn’t available to its Basic with Ads subscribers. If horror’s limitless capacity for remakes, re-imaginings, and spinoffs teaches us anything, it’s that our nightmares never really change. Since before “Nosferatu” darkened the silent film scene in 1922 — heck, even before Bram Stoker terrified readers with “Dracula” in 1897 — vampires have transfixed audiences with their chilling blend of romance and menace. Movies like “Twilight” and “Interview with the Vampire” are memorable for weaving epic undead dramas for the big screen, but vampire sagas have arguably seen more creative permutations on TV, with whole casts of blood-sucking stars appearing in shows like “True Blood” and “Castlevania.”
The best vampire TV shows examine the archetypal underpinnings of the gothic-infused subgenre by referencing them in unexpected ways. There has always been something weirdly special about vampire movies. It’s one aspect of the horror genre that’s sure to be a box office success with a good script. Van Helsing (2004) brought together all that’s exciting in that world of horror—Dracula, werewolves, slayers, Frankenstein’s monster, and holy water. So, it was no surprise the movie was successful at the box office. With a budget of 160–170 million, the movie grossed 300.2 million. There have been talks about a reboot, with Universal Pictures making an official announcement in May 2012. However, the plans are to have Tom Cruise play the

A few days ago the news broke that Marvel's upcoming reboot of "Blade" was being put on hold while the studio looked for a new director following Bassim Tariq's exit. The revisit to the world of the film partially responsible for the superhero-dominated culture we're currently experiencing was set to begin principal photography in Atlanta next month, and was apparently already in pre-production on location when crew members were informed of the pause. The company is anticipating a restart for early 2023, but a replacement director has yet to be named. It's been said that the Mahershala Ali-starring film will also be "further developing" story elements of the film, with a trusted /Film source confirming that Ali will contribute to the film's new direction, perhaps even with additional rewrites at his request.

Universal Pictures' infamous Dark Universe was not an inherently bad idea. The studio had enjoyed great success crossing over its classic monster movie series going back to the 1940s, at one point even pairing them with comedy duo Abbott and Costello for a run of films. Then, director Stephen Sommers gave "The Mummy" a fresh coat of paint with his 1999 remake, a delightfully cheeky mix of "Indiana Jones"-style action/adventure and supernatural horror that would spawn two sequels and a series of spinoff films about The Scorpion King (a role originated by Dwayne Johnson in 2001's "The Mummy Returns").
Since then, however, Universal has struggled to effectively re-imagine most of its other monsters for the 21st century. Many of its attempts to do so have seen the studio trying to repurpose these characters as superheroes, starting with Sommers' 2004 movie "Van Helsing" and continuing on to 2014's "Dracula Untold," a...

Hollywood has come a long way with playing vampires in movies. It goes back to silent motion picture movies like 1913 The Vampire and the popular 1922 Nosferatu. In recent decades, before the Twilight series, we had the 1994 Interview with the Vampire, 1998 Blade, 2003 Underworld, and 2004 Van Helsing. Neil Labute is no stranger to horror. As he says, some audiences have called his infamous work from the '90s, including "In The Company of Men" and "Your Friends & Neighbors," basically horror movies. Labute often portrays the worst in people and crafts uncomfortable experiences, making his instincts seem just right for the genre.
The playwright and filmmaker took his biggest leap into the genre realm with "The Wicker Man" remake. The not-so-great experience, which had a lot of cooks in the kitchen, didn't turn Labute off from horror. For years, he worked on SyFy's "Van Helsing" and once even adapted "Dracula" for the stage. Now, Labute is back with another horror yarn, "House of Darkness." It's a gothic mystery, which features actor Justin Long continuing his hot-streak of playing despicable characters.
Recently, Labute talked to us about crafting his latest film and how his stories and audiences continue to evolve.

It's that time again. Although Hulu will be adding a plethora of TV shows and movies in September, a good chunk of their extensive library will cease to exist on the streaming platform. Hulu is home to a healthy number of films and television shows in a wide array of genres and generations, but every month (due to some complicated licensing rights), the streamer loses a long list of titles that either never make it back to the platform, or take months/years to return. Thankfully, we keep track of what is departing Hulu on a monthly basis, and it's a doozy for September. From genre-defining films to cult classics, there are some absolute gems leaving Hulu this month.
We've hand-selected five films from the expiring section of Hulu's library that are worth catching up with before they are gone forever.
