the show in general
rustypotts24 April 2017
While i'm not sure whether i believe in ghosts or not, I did really enjoy the show in the beginning. Now it just seems like i've seen this show before. I did enjoy Derek on the show as he gave much more history on the places visited & the ghosts that lived there. He even interacted with the ghosts. He made it all seem fun & exciting to the viewer. Altho i like Fred, the Demonalagist, i find he doesn't participate in the show as much as i think he should. He gives a bit of history in the beginning of the show, almost repeating what Yvette already says in the intro & then it's like he fades out sight. As for Dr. John Callow, his reviews are monotone & boring. I keep waiting for him to fall asleep in the middle of his droning on & on. He's almost emotionless. Does he ever blink?? I want to get a good look around of the beautiful places investigated before investigation starts, a bit more history & maybe Fred could interact with the ghosts a bit more.

Good for entertainment but not getting any real evidence
xxrainbowxx-6303822 February 2022
If this is a show of real investigations, they are going about it all wrong. Yvette screams way too much. My group was professional, we did not scream or run like chickens with our heads cut off.

over dramatic and hammy, not like Ghost Hunters or Paranormal State but entertaining
phrixion6 May 2008
I've watched all of the episodes of all 3 shows to current date and here's my breakdown.

Most Haunted - highly theatrical, dramatic and genuinely fake at times. But they visit some great locations. The host and medium from the first season are fine for the full first season and the Unseen episodes as well. However, after the first season it is quite the task to keep up with the squealing and crying of the main host and the sometimes genuinely fake and theatrical psychic. The sane people on the show is the director of investigations and the various parapsychologists. This show is purely for entertainment, and wishy washy at that. It's a shame, the best parts of the show is during the lights out investigations and they are truly investigating.

Some episodes from each season are worth watching as they visit all these great locations, as the show doesn't emphasis anything really but the mediums, using the ouiji board and history of the location. But sometimes even the history is almost difficult to believe as they don't name their sources and the mediums get them almost every time, clearly a setup and gimmick for the show. This show is currently on the travel channel in the US. I highly recommend visiting the TV shows episodes website and watch them by highest rating.

Porcine Ablution (in other words; "hogwash")
glurpp16 April 2010
It's been common knowledge in the UK that this show is "rigged," since 2005, when Derek Acorah was exposed as a fraud by national European newspapers and TV shows (search youtube to see the altered footage for yourself). At the same time, Karl (Yvette's husband, as it turns out) was exposed for having tossed pebbles, shoved crew members and blamed it on "ghosts" etc. (Again, a quick search of sites such as wikipedia will easily provide more information).

Somehow, none of this information seems to have made it to the U.S. in the nearly half-decade since it became common knowledge in Europe.

Having watched the American version of this swill since its inception, I will never waste another second of my life watching these charlatans as they insult the intelligence of anyone truly interested in finding answers to the age-old question of whether there is life after death.

Since the stone age, mankind has been aware of spirits in the physical realm (and for anyone who says they don't believe in ghosts, ask them to finish this sentence: "the Father, the Son and the Holy ..."), and it's become abundantly clear that Yvette Fielding and accomplices are also involved in one of mankind's oldest pursuits: betraying the trust of the gullible.

I lost someone very, very dear to me. I've long questioned whether our spirits live on after our bodies die, but it's become so much more pressing a concern since this huge vacancy appeared in my life so unexpectedly.

As such, I truly resent the cheap tricks (table shaking, tossing pebbles, so-called "seances") Fielding and cohorts use, in an attempt to pass off acting as genuine communication with spiritual beings. Even for its supposed "entertainment value," it's worthless.

I'll watch some other program. No thanks. Do some research and you'll probably come to a similar conclusion.

Oooozing Velveeta

This is one of those shows that deserves it's own drinking game. Every time the host shrieks or cries, take a drink. Every time Derek says "Slaughter", take a drink. Every time they say that a place isn't haunted, drink a whole fifth of Everclear.

Where does one begin to unravel how stupid this show is? Yes, they go to interesting places. Yes, the UK is filled with spooky places to investigate, but it's amazing that EVERY site they travel to is chock full o' ghosts.

Yvette Fielding is about as scientifically minded as a carnival barker at the freakshow. She flips out as soon as the light are off, and every bump or cobweb is a sign that someone is trying to contact her.

Derek Accora is ridiculously cheesy, especially when he goes into trances that supposedly lead to him "channeling" an evil spirit. And his "spirit guide" Sam, Derek's imaginary friend whom he thanks profusely throughout the show always manages to give him half-correct clues that lead them to another room where Yvette will nearly pee her pants.

Be sure to take a drink whenever the disclaimer at the bottom of the screen suggests that there's no proof to back up whatever Derek says. It happens often, so you'll probably be toasted after one full episode.

Not what it seems
glenngor200126 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Most Haunted has not only been revealed as a 'Fraud' due the exposing of Derek Acora. Whenever she appears on celebrity shows, Yvette Fielding often mocks how easy it is to dupe people. She makes no secret of the fact that "Most Haunted" is a huge scam. On one occasion during such a show, she was asked if she had ever personally experienced any paranormal encounters at home? She explained that one of her personal encounters occurred in her kitchen, describing how all the chairs around the dining room table were pushed in under the table. However, when she had her back turned, then turned around, all the chairs were sitting on top of the table. She had obviously been describing a scene from the classic film, Poltergeist. When Derek Acora was exposed as a fraud, the credibility of the entire show was also exposed by one of its leading participants, who is a Psychologist for the show. He pulled out of Most Haunted, due to a guilty conscience and deceiving the viewers. In the celebrity editions of the show, celebrities had to agree to keep quiet as part of their contract. You can also plainly see that the participants of the show are bad actors. It is due to scams from the likes of Yvette Fielding and her husband Karl, that other alternative genuine Ghost Hunting shows lose their credibility. Fielding and her husband, Karl are arrogantly profiting from deceit.

A showman that cannot be denied
pantheonzeus19 April 2006
At first we were impressed that Derek (aka "Degsie" to fans) could pull out historical facts from the ether with the help of his psychic guide Sam (an ethiopian who lived centuries ago).

We so wanted to believe!

The show Most Haunted has been a huge ratings winner for a little cable channel in UK - and the show crossed over onto our basic cable in the USA. It does nicely for Travel Channel in the USA.

After a little digging and googling - and reading about some behind-the-scenes entrapment by the crew who planted fake info to Derek before tapings -- we are now bigger fans than ever.

We know from media reports that he was slyly given anagrams of the words "Derek Lies" (Rik Eedles) and "Derek Faker" (Kreed Kafer) and he grabbed onto the names he overheard from the crew and sure enough these fake names of souls promptly came through during the taping !! Brilliant! We love this show anyway!!

Derek may give hope to millions that there is something in the next world, and sweet souls are in "visitation" among us -- but to us - "Degs" is simply a classic TV showman.

A few seasons into the series - Degs began to get possessed during seances. He would bellow and hiss as the supposed spirit persons who were hanging around old cellars, castles and manors.

In one classic show, he became possessed by the spirit of a pagan hag and barked at an interviewer when asked "her" name -- Degsie hissed: " What's YOUR name, leper ?!! " After these entertaining possessions, Derek usually collapses into a heap, is escorted out and his work is done. ("Derek, come forward!")

Derek (a former footballer turned spirit medium) supposedly arrives at these "haunted" locales "with no prior history of the building." However, many of these locations are famous "haunted" UK tourist destinations (many with "ghost tours" available to the public).

Sometimes Derek forgets a date or a surname - but he usually covers by getting distracted by another spirit and the question is never answered.

The show is hosted by a former UK child star named Yvette Fielding. Co-hosted by her campy historian colleague and part-time ghost walk tourguide Richard Felix, with "base line readings" taken early in every show by Phil Wyman (thru season 4). Phil is a husky and cute lad prone to wearing tight dance club Tshirts. I love Phil!!

Watch for: Yvette sitting in a dark empty manor and asking ever so politely "is anybody here?" --- "please make a noise if you can hear me." --- "a noise...a bump...anything".

Watch for: Derek being "drawn" to "an area" and after being prompted by Yvette if he'd like to go towards another room, he says "may we?". (Yes! we want to yell-- That's why you are there!)

Watch for: Derek to use A lot of descriptive words to reveal very little info.

The MH producers perhaps became hostile towards -or- jealous of Derek's antics & fame - and he left the show after 6 seasons to star in his own spin off series "Derek Acorah's Ghost Towns" (where he has even more over-the-top possessions, and brings celebrity to ordinary people's haunted houses. In the spin off series, attention seekers drop by the "Ghost Truck" for pre-interviews. How handy!).

Most Haunted was a cult sensation in the UK - with French & Saunders even spoofing it on their BBC comedy special.

After 7 years of investigations and a parade of psychic mediums, the show has uncovered little in terms of proof of hauntings or the paranormal- except the occasional bump in the night, TV sets that turn on & off, and those frequent "light anomalies" (which look a lot like dust floating past digital handi-cams).

Most Haunted with Derek Acorah and his predictable enthusiasm, edginess and histrionics is a terrific way to pass an evening in front of the telly --with or without "a grounded soul in visitation".

OMG dont waste your time
jakersacres2 July 2020
I binge watch paranormal shows and this is the most annoying load of bull I have ever watched. Shrieks like school girls and fake as in not even good acting so called mediums. You want to investigate a haunted place, expect some hauntings, dont shriek! I read too that some were riged. Well if i was a ghost and u riged my dwelling be prepared for the real deal. I dont know why they still run this on TV....everytime it comes on, i change channels.

In a 'haunted' house, everyone can hear Yvette scream.
jlcrelly6 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Even though I am a complete skeptic regarding ghosts, I have watched this show for years, probably since it was first broadcast in the UK. I especially like watching the episodes that take place in abandoned or empty buildings such as old cinemas.

One thing I find most bemusing is, despite being professional ghost hunters, is how much screaming takes place, especially from Yvette, who leads the ghost hunt.

Without fail, during each episode at some stage, especially when they are using night vision and little can be seen, something will happen, usually off screen and Yvette will begin screaming and running away. This will generally initiate a general five minutes of mayhem, with the rest of the crew joining in the panic.

After over 13 years of ghost hunting, you would think that Yvette has hardened up a bit and not run at the first sign of a ghost actually showing up. The poor ghosts must be so confused. They are asked to show a sign and then when they do, everyone runs away.

Simply A Bit Of Spooky Fun
TessieC4 November 2017
Of course it's fake! Lighten up everyone and don't be so serious - it's simply a little bit of spooky entertainment. There is even a disclaimer at the start of each show actually telling us that it's for "entertainment only", has no-one spotted this? The programme doesn't claim anything else. It isn't real, it isn't intelligent, but is interesting anyway for taking us behind-the-scenes of renowned (often historic) haunted locations that we would not normally have access to. Try to take it in the spirit (no pun intended haha) intended, and enjoy a little lighthearted, spooky fun :)

I love paranormal exploration but...
dmail-5958029 July 2019
Those women should not be in paranormal investigations. They constantly scream and if there was paranormal activity you wouldn't be able to hear it. I can't image exploring with them and them screaming at the top of their lungs just inches or feet from your ear.

Great Program!
dbzgal0427 April 2006
I absolutely love "Most Haunted." I watch it every Friday night. Of course, it's about paranormal investigators who enter haunted places (such as houses and castles) to try and communicate with ghosts. The team talks about the place's past, like how long it's been around, people who lived there, etc. When communicating with the spirits, the team will say that they mean no harm, and ask the spirits to do something to make themselves known, like making noises. As a huge lover of ghosts, I truly enjoy "Most Haunted." This one is a must-see, for believers and skeptics alike. Who knows, perhaps if you're skeptical, you'll become a believer!

"We're not here to frighten you or ridicule you!"
Gianolio20 January 2022
OK, so I have been watching Most Haunted since it's inception, the very first series. Time has shown that there have been many fake psychic's and the ramped up incidents which has called the series into question at times. There is no doubt that Yvette, Karl, Stuart and the like are entertaining but at times its clear that they have needed to 'spice' things up to keep it interesting. For example for years and years there were never any footsteps heard on camera, then all of a sudden that's all you hear - likewise with knocking - once for yes, two for no.

Time has also shown that there have been many new ghost hunters in this arena - notably Ghost Adventures and the like. They all seem to be embracing new technology such as voice boxes, EMF meters etc, but no, Most Haunted still rely on the knocking and footsteps, but clearly this is added post edit.

Anyway, my rating for Most Haunted isn't a low one, it is entertaining and some of the banter between Karl and Stuart is classic, but they just need to keep it real. Shame it's only on YouTube these days, probably because they can't get rid of the 'just for entertainment purposes' statements.

Most Haunted, keep it going but keep it real!

First time watched. And 20 seasons... unbelievable. I'm in the wrong business. People eat this stuff up. Wonder way.

Except, I notice it is all the style that people respond to. It's not the evidence, it's the suggestion that something is eminent.

Supposed to be "investigators", yet we noticed most action happens off camera. Need to leave room for an action to occur, because we all know can't happen with people noticing(?)(not to mention the energy required to throw something).

And not enough equipment. Just always happen to do a replay with a bad/in shadow camera.(Use some of your ill gotten money and buy more).Unless a camera shot is required around some emf tech shot.

Hmm... and, why are you filming in night vision/black camera mode when... the room lights are on? (Answer- spook effect!) Or, maybe they can see the items they point out to in darkness? Unreal.

How convenient

More Like "Night Vision Cameras And Swearing"
destoroyah9888610 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I've tried to watch this show, but every time I do, it's the same crap: someone says "oh (bleep)!" or " what the (bleep) was that, I haven't seen one remotely ghost-like being on that show, I don't count the tinted flashlight being shined around the room either! Wanna know why the camera is always focused on their faces when a "ghost" enters the room? They don't want you to see the equipment that they use for their "ghostly" sound effects and etc. Yeah, I told their "big secret". this show is just smoke and mirrors-no, it's just night vision cameras and swearing! the people who read this who actually like this show are going to feel like kids that have just been told that Santa isn't real, if they don't, then I guess that they just like night vision cameras, and swearing. Don't like my comment, well, that just lets me know that some people just can't handle the truth. PS. That's why I put in that this comment contains a spoiler.

Hilarious fraud
briancham199411 August 2020
This show is a raucous comedy. It's essentially hours of easily frightened people freaking out over the slightest noise in the background. The joke wears out after you realise that they might be serious though.

Screaming
slippinlymonleemen27 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
You got to stop the screaming. Not cool. The screaming is much more disruptive than any spirit I came across. Always love the show, but will stop watching if the screaming continues. Love when you have guests. It puts a different spin on things. I always wanted to check out the haunted places in England. This series shows me a lot of interesting scenery and landmarks.

Most fake
russellthompson-0316721 June 2021
Yvette Fielding. Need I say more? A presenter more suited to Cbeebies than an adult show! Her techniques to connect with ghosts are laughable. How many cases have you heard of with spirits copying WHISTLING??! Come on! Don't insult my intelligence! The show where you see NOTHING. Because there IS nothing. Just a fake pile of tripe.

Dissapointed with Most haunted, it's a laughing stock !
hazelford22 September 2020
I watch all the Paranormal programmes, They are great , All different teams , but when you compare these with Most Haunted is left a laughing stock, I think Yvette Fielding and her husband need to learn a load more, I don't know how they are producers, The other teams sleep all night in these haunted buildings, So brave, and are talking to the spirits, I don't know about Fred into demons he is rubbish too , It's like watching a Carry on film! The only one I think has sense is Glen the sceptic, There is several teams investigating, they are amazing , Yvette is better having another job in reporting, acting or in television, but deffo not investigating ghosts, there must be other viewers agree with me, It's a comedy ! Let's have more teams , Yvette should go !

Great show
StuDeb216 November 2020
Going through the episodes from the beginning. I really love this show. It was put together so well. Such a great concept and the history of these places is fascinating. I like Evette Fielding but I just wish she could have not been so scared all the time. I couldn't have done it but the constant what's that noise and screaming while Derek was talking becomes really annoying. I loved Derek Acorah, god rest his soul. I saw him live and I believe he was a talented medium. I didn't like what happened to him. Being set up and ridiculed. It tainted what was a great show.

Believe it or not!!
tizzy_liz26 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I'll admit that I'm completely addicted to the show! Whether its real or not leaves me uncertain. A friend of mine sent me a link regarding the show. It was a news article found in the UK Mirror. I recommend checking it out! I actually remember two of the episodes they are discussing and find it very intriguing.

Will this article keep me from watching the show more? No! I love the show! Will it cause me to question whether the findings are real or not? Most definitely! It's interesting because we never really hear any EVP or see the things really move. We just hear things falling and breaking in the background. I remember an episode where Yvette heard someone laughing in her ear. They said that they caught it on her microphone but they never play it for us to hear! Very interesting! I think the Most Haunted team and the TAPS team (from Ghost Hunters on the Sci Fi Channel here) should do a show together!!

Used to be good?
grahamerickard15 June 2020
I used to love Most Haunted when it first started and stopped watching after David Wells left the show. I have tried to get back into it but the investigations are very much the same with poor evidence. Invest in some equipment guys, SLS, geoport, ovilus, full spectrum camera whatever! A seance, Yvette screaming and drowning out any noise phenomenon, crew chucking stones and denying it isn't compelling viewing. The US have some interesting shows like Ghost Adventures which shows some scientific evidence. This is the only UK show in one of the most haunted countries in the world, this show could be great.

Most entertaining of the paranormal shows.
joanieg-8698024 July 2022
I love this show. They are hilarious. Some of the places they go to are obviously haunted, and the evidence they have captured on their static cameras is amazing, it will make you a believer. Comedy ensues when they ask an entity to move an object or make a noise and their reaction when it responds. I just wish they would point the camera at the ghosts as opposed to themselves more often. ❤👻

Treasurers house York needs a visit
alderson-2642819 October 2023
York is supposed to be the most haunted place. The only place I was convinced I felt the presence of mr green. Then I got a huge cold rush has i stood in a corridor waiting to get into his bedroom. It's hard to tell on the most haunted if it's real or not. This is coming from a believer has Iv had lots of encounters. I liked the Australian one in the North kapunda hotel. Where one of them collapsed due to a spirit entered him. I liked the historical side of the building. This is difficult because I wanted to make a quick comment but I have to do 600 words. Keep going guys. I know it's hard to catch that one thing that can prove 100% It did look like he collapsed.

A piece of British Trash !
Rjdogboy1820 February 2006
this show from the UK fallows "ghost hunters" many are interested in ghost and the paranormal but these people are just wacko, they scream run and get poss ed a lot, i cant decide if they are just crazy or if they deserve a award for best actors playing screwed up people! American shows such as ghost Hunters on the Sci-fi network is a much better and realistic show, as the REAL Ghost hunters on (ghost Hunters) are out not to prove that every thing could be paranormal they try to prove some things are not solid evidence and the evidence left and cant be disproven 100% is worthy to be looked at but not at all to be consider real proof, for they know you need solid evidence and they are looking for it. to sum this up if you like watching people be stupid and run at a flash of light or a odd shadow then watch Most Haunted.
