This movie made me cry
Tabolina3 March 2005
This movie was so sad. It really made me wish I could go inside the movie and help Darby. I thought the whole story was very good. It had some funny things in it too, but had more sad things. The guy who played Darby's boyfriend was cute and sweet. More guys should watch this movie and see how a guy should treat a girlfriend. I liked the song in the movie too. It was pretty.

I think the guy's friend (forgot his name) was really annoying. He kind of reminded me of Screetch from "Saved By the Bell." That is not a good thing. Other than him, everyone else in the movie was good.

I wish the movie was longer. But it was really good still.

I recommend this movie, but be ready to cry.

Thank you for reading my review. :-)

Strong story marred by weak production values
OcalaBlue31 December 2004
"Love Note" is a small film in every sense -- running time, budget, production scope. However, it is also an effective story told with a fresh voice, and it holds your attention with solid acting and a sharp script that sprinkles in enough humor to ease the rather dour subject.

A high school student arrives at her new school. Aloof and seemingly stuck-up, what her new classmates don't know is that she's dying from brain cancer. She's just trying desperately to keep living a "normal" teen life while life slips away.

The popular guy in school -- played energetically by a young Craig Bierko -- sees past her walls, learns the truth, and falls in love.

It's basically "Love Story" set in high school, though this one tries to touch upon the deeper aspects of facing death: fear, anger, the afterlife...

It's a good story with a strong script and performances that do their best to overcome weak production values.

good story, but too short
Sweetwood20 January 2005
I thought this was a pretty good movie. It was too short, but it packed a lot into its time. I'd watch it again. Some of the lines were pretty funny. The girl who played the Darby was cute. It has that cheesy 80's feel to it, but I guess that's okay since it was filmed during the...um...80's.

I think they should have made it more in depth about Darby's illness. That would have been interesting to see more detail on how tough her suffering was. But I guess at just over an hour long, they had to cut a lot.

Still a good movie.

I give it 1 1/2 thumbs up!

Amazing

Warning: Spoilers
This is the best movie I have ever seen. Never have there been two acting geniuses like Craig Johnson and Dog in one movie. Simply brilliant. Finding out that Darby had cancer was the biggest shock in cinematic history. The tension and build up was epic, and I was on the edge of my seat when her hair fell off. (Great special effects). The ending was arguably the greatest of all time. I mean who would have expected Craig and Dog to join up after their histories? Best writing ever, period. This story will capture the hearts of millions much like The Wizard of Oz, Titanic, and The Sandlot. Definitely a ten out of ten for making me a ten. I'm expecting a sequel soon.

Christian version of Love Story
bkoganbing11 October 2005
It's unfortunate that Love Note did not have better production values than it had because it's a nice story, a kind of Christian version of Love Story.

Craig Bierko plays a high school kid, a Christian, who feels that he's not doing enough for the Lord in his day to day life. That's all about to change when he meets Darby, a girl who transfers from another school. She's pretty snooty around him and Craig is not used to that. Of course later on he finds that she's suffering from a terminal brain tumor.

By that time she's warmed up to him a bit and they begin a deep and beautiful friendship that unfortunately can only end in tragedy.

Taking into account that a film like this won't have the Hollywood production values and normally the cast in these kinds of films is attractive, but untalented. Here however both Craig Bierko and Sally Murphy who plays Darby went on to substantial careers in mainstream films. These two are very talented and no surprise they went on to the careers they have.

Most recently Craig Bierko was in Cinderella Man and while I don't agree with the way Ron Howard had Max Baer's character interpreted in that film there was nothing wrong with Bierko's acting.

The only reason I give it as low a rating as I do is because of the shoddy production values. But the leads do a fine job in a poignant tale.
