Gripping Stories from Real People
jrm0728-19 April 2008
Wish it were longer. Expresses the complexity, sadness, bravery, and ultimate connectedness that war brings for its warriors. Filmed at the National Cemetery in Los Angeles on Memorial Day 2001, before 9-11. Powerful and moving documentary.

Nine veterans from three of America's wars of the 20th century give their viewpoints on war covering the spectrum - from "all wars are good wars" to "all war's stupid" and points in between. A tear slides slowly down one Marine's cheek as he recounts his experience in Viet Nam in which he felt "Privileged to be a member of the greatest fraternity that's ever lived." That intensity permeates the film. It is capped off by the veterans reciting Siegfried Sassoon's poem, "Aftermath, March 1919," which closes, "Swear by the green of spring that You'll never forget".
