Spirited and skillful
deickemeyer24 October 2019
A spirited and skillful two-part adaptation from Prosper Merimee's romance of the time of Napoleon. The interest is caught at the start and held to the finish. Lighting, costuming and grouping are all excellent. The scenes which introduce the character of Napoleon are the only ones in the picture that are not thoroughly convincing. Almost the entire cast show to great advantage; Gretchen Hartman, Joseph McDermott and Edward Cecil being particularly effective. This photoplay should command the respect of audiences of every class. - The Moving Picture World, March 13, 1915
