A must have for any 311 fan
volcomsocal6616 February 2007
This DVD is an excellent showing of what 311 is all about. Starting back in 2000, on March 11th (3-11), 311 put on a special concert for their hardcore fans, called 311 Day. Every other year (2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, and soon to come 2008) on March 11th, 311 performs a mind-boggling set for up to 4 hours. Each successive year the set list gets bigger and bigger. With this DVD, it captured their 4 hour set list of songs on 3-11-2004. It's a very high quality and entertaining performance that should please most anyone. They combine a wide range of styles in their music... rock, reggae, jazz, funk, dancehall, and rap, and they do it all extremely well. All their hits, including Down, Amber, Come Original, and a TON of their lesser known songs are performed. Nick Hexum is on vocals and rhythm guitar, S.A. Martinez is on vocals and turntables, P-Nut is on bass, Tim Mahoney is on lead guitar, and Chad Sexton is on drums. One of the highlights of the DVD is the song called "Applied Science." The original version of the song has a 20 second drum solo performed exclusively by the drummer. As the years have gone by, the band became a part of the drum solo, and now every time they play "Applied Science" in concert, the whole band is part of the drum solo... definitely something that needs to be seen on this DVD. This DVD is directed very cleanly and the quality of the visuals and sound is top notch.

Outstanding Band!

311 is an incredible band with amazing versatility in various musical genres. Though I've never seen them in concert, I've got all their albums, and they're one of the best American bands around: what stamina and devotion to the fans to last five hours. As a seasoned musician, I get drained playing for an hour, but these guys are amazing. You don't have to be a pothead to enjoy this music (I am not, rest assured), but none the less, Omaha Stylees rejoice! Nick Hexum's lyrical ability is quite evident in the vast range of his interests, and S.A Martinez's falsetto is the perfect complement, not to mention his hip-hop uniqueness: BTW, he has really come into his own with the latest album "Don't Tread On Me." All the musicians are incredible players: P-Nut is second only to Les Claypool at the bass, I kid you not-he takes slapping to a whole new level. Chad Sexton can drum with the best of them, and Tim Mahoney is so diverse it makes you sick. Whether it is the majestic "Amber" set with it's upbeat love theme, or "Beautiful Disaster", with its rejection of hard drug taking and harmony guitar, 311 delivers the goods. Just try to do 64 songs and see how easy it is; but these guys pull it off like it's nothing. Check it out and rejoice!
