Kim Hunter, Elaine Stritch. Who could ask for anything more?

Nothing like discovering a TV show by doing research on some of your favorite actors and finding material that you never knew existed. Academy Award winner Kim Hunter and Broadway veteran Elaine Stritch are fascinating in this vintage TV series I've never heard of that actually ran for a couple of seasons. It was actually created by James Michener, best known for "Tales of the South Pacific". Gardner McKay stars in the series as the captain of a small boat who takes passengers from one tropical destination to another, and in this episode, the passengers are a troubled widow (Hunter) and her companion (Stritch). Hunter is a troubled woman who seems to feel that she's being haunted by her late husband, and perhaps the strong arms of McKay can help her get over that fear.

It's easy to see why this episode was not included in Elaine Stritch is retrospective her TV work in her one-woman Broadway show although she is fascinating to watch. She makes flirtatious wisecracks while Hunter screams, and thus Stritch ends up stealing the episode with her vibrant personality. This is a very creaky episode (obviously a kinescope), more likely based on the available print than the actual quality of the show. It's obviously Studio bound because the set seems rather cramped, but it's fascinating television history. McKay is downright stunning to look at. The moodiness of the plot aides this in being well worth seeking out for TV historians.
