Sadly, quite predictable.

Warning: Spoilers
When the show begins, a boxing promotor's apartment seems like it has a revolving door! In the space of about three minutes, three folks come to see him. First, an angry and disappointed boxer meets with him. Second, Betty Jones arrives to ask the man to read some papers from Barnaby. Third, a man arrives...and pushes him off the balcony to his death! Betty witnessed who this third person was but before she can testify, a person who appears to be a blonde lady starts threatening her NOT to testify or she'll be murdered!!

The surprise plot device in "A Desperate Pursuit" is the same one you will see in Brian De Palma's "Dressed to Kill". However, in the film, the surprise is handled well and the plot keeps you guessing. In the case of "A Desperate Pursuit", you can't help but guess this surprise early on because there is no subtlety nor alternative explanation for what is happening to Betty. As a result, what could have been a neat twist isn't any surprise at all.

Painfully Obvious

Warning: Spoilers
MAJOR SPOILERS

Silly story. It was obvious from the start that the "mystery" woman was a man in a wig. It was also obvious that it was Tom Powers, because from the beginning his behavior was over the top stalkerish. Everything in this was poorly done. Why was Tom threatening Betty about testifying against the killer anyway? He had nothing to do with the murder. When Tom axed the breaker box to make the elevator fall, how did he manage to only hit the fuse for Betty's elevator and not affect any other electricity in the building? When the woman threatening Betty called, the cop went to find her, leaving Betty unguarded, instead of calling another cop. Why did Betty go off with Tom instead of locking the door and staying there like the cop said, when she knew the "woman" was outside somewhere? And if Tom was so obsessed with Betty, why have we never seen him before? When she first saw him in the hall she acted like she had never met him before. Skippable.
