A BIG FRAME FOR JR!
tcchelsey8 April 2024
Remembering this episode when it premiered, I agree with the last reviewer, JR makes some mistakes that get him in WAY over his head. Possibly JR was just trying to strike out on his own... however he has himself to blame.

He's drugged and wakes up the prime suspect in a rape case. It's a familair cop show theme, and actually someone else (other than JR) should have been in a situation like this. JR winds up the proverbial fall guy instead.

As to whodunit and why -- is worth seeing it through. The culprits are definitely a nefarious bunch who deserve everything that's coming to them. To the episodes credit is master director Leo Penn (Sean's famous dad) and an excellent cast to match. Karen Purcill guest stars as Drew, later on DAYS OF OUR LIVES. Mark Goddard (LOST IN SPACE) plays Tony and look for DARK SHADOWS star John Karlen. Also this type of story would not be complete without the appearance of tv and screen heavy Biff McGuire.

Yes, Barnaby has his work cut for him. This was the only episode written by Dallas Barnes, who wrote for top shows like BARETTA and KOJAK. He previously wrote an episode for David Cassidy's cop show. SEASON 7 EPISODE 7 remastered color/CBS. 2018 dvd box set.

Jedediah isn't especially bright in this one!
planktonrules3 August 2021
In the beginning of this episode, Jedediah is drugged. While he's passed out, he's placed in a woman's room and she runs to the police to say he raped her. Why would she say this and who would put her up to it?

Well, the episode shows Jedediah at his dumbest. Instead of letting Barnaby investigate OR investigating with a witness with him all the time, Jedediah just blunders in...and makes himself look incredibly guilty! It defies common sense for a private detective to be this dumb...a major weakness in the episode. It does get worse...when Jedediah realizes he's now a wanted man and his bail was revoked, he goes on the run in order to keep investigating!

So is it any good? Yes and no. Yes, the idea for the episode is unique and interesting. No, Jedediah behaves just too foolishly to be realistic. As a result, it's a real mixed bag. A bit weak but not terrible.
