The story is set on a some land where some wonderful community is supposed to be built....a lake, a golf course and many lovely homes. However, one of the folks who purchased land here has noticed that no building has begun and he's wondering if he and others are being taken. Foolishly, he confronts the man in charge (Robert Foxworth)....and the landowner is murdered to keep him quiet. Why? Because the unscrupulous man has been selling the same plots again and again!

When Barnaby investigates, he also begins to wonder about the legitimacy of this community. He also notices that the killer had some accomplices...accomplices who turn out to be just as vicious as him!

This is a fascinating episode and one that I enjoyed due to the interesting story. Not among the very best but a solid and entertaining entry.

JUST GIVE ME YOUR MONEY TO MAKE ME RICH. OK?

First episode of SEASON 3, rated 10 STARS.

Actually, it's a very topical storyline, even to this day, dealing with everyday people investing in land to build a new home and start a new life.

Such is the case for Claude (played by popular actor Regis Cordic) who smells a rat when this new community he invested in just stands there. A nothing burger! None other than Robert Foxworth plays Whit, the sinister real estate gentleman who up and kills Claude, naturally hoping no one is any the wiser. So he thinks!

Lenore Kasdorf (as Susan) plays the mans daughter who calls Barnaby, and not a moment too soon, as crafty Whit is raking in the big bucks from a lot of other investors who are being swindled. And he keeps company with some equally deadly folks.

Human nature at its very, very worst, to put it mildly.

An excellent cast here, also including beautiful Laraine Stephens (as Irene) and young Tyne Daly (before CAGNEY AND LACY). Director Walter Grauman gets some fine performances out of everybody, right down to bit roles.

Regis Cordic, who has a small part here as the victim, was a well known Hollywood DJ and announcer who replaced Bob Crane on the air at CBS when he joined HOGANS HEROES.

A must see for Barnaby mystery fans.

SEASON 3 remastered CBS dvd box set.
