Lockwood's back....and like his previous guest starring role, he plays a real sociopath!
planktonrules13 July 2021
Early in the first season, Gary Lockwood played a complete sociopath who was bent on murdering Barnaby Jones. To put it mildly, the man wasn't wound too tight! Well, here in the third season Lockwood's back playing another criminal...and this one is nearly as loopy and dangerous...which makes him interesting to watch, that's for sure!

The episode begins in an insurance film late at night. An employee is photocopying schematics for an alarm system for a company his firm insures. Shortly after this, his partner in crime (Lockwood) shows up and kills him.

The dead man's wife hires Barnaby to figure out why her husband died. The police ruled it a suicide but that didn't make any sense at all. The trail leads to the gang that killed him...and by then, Lockwood's character has already killed again!

This is a very good episode mostly due to how frightening Lockwood's character was in the show. He's menacing and a bit loopy...and makes for an interesting and unpredictable foe. Well worth seeing.

TOO, TOO DANGEROUS TO KNOW!

10 STARS.

This is an exceptional episode, however more on the deep psychological side, playing like a HAWAII FIVE O story. It may have also been intended as a CANNON episode, but re-written for Barnaby. Whatever the case, it's sobering and with a very unusual slant.

The guy you love to hate, Gary Lockwood, returns, this time playing Cam Wheeler, a homicidal maniac and master thief, who kills another man interfering in his business --or is he interfering in his personal life? The curious slant here is it may all boil down to jealousy, for a change of pace. Well written by Gerald Sanford, who was also writing for GET CHRISTIE LOVE at the time, later the FBI. Lockwood's style, as a villain, was quite similar to James Olson's line of lethal characters.

Popular actress Jay W. MacIntosh (as Sarah) hires on Barnaby to find out what's the real deal behind her husband's death. MacIntosh appeared several times in SONS AND DAUGHTERS in the 70s, and also the LASSIE tv series. She later became a lawyer. Young Meg Foster returns to the series, playing Gina, connected to Wheeler.

Two other veteran actors to note; Oscar Beregi, who reminded me somewhat of Werner Klemperer, plays Emil and popular cult movie actor Antony Carbone portrays Starrett. Carbone worked for producer Roger Corman in such campy films as CREATURE FROM THE HAUNTED SEA (1960), playing a Humphrey Bogart lookalike!

Corey Allen directed, who later headed over 1200 episodes of the 80s soap opera, CAPITOL.

One not to miss, especially for Gary Lockwood.

From SEASON 3 EPISODE 7 remastered CBS dvd box set.
