Is she losing her mind or being gaslighted? And, if it's the latter, who is doing it and why?!

Kay (Shirley Knight) is a married lady whose life has been tough. After losing her young daughter, she was institutionalized due to depression...a very natural and understandable thing. However, what's not understandable is how she now keeps being reminded of the dead child...hearing hew voice, seeing the child's toys and more. But in each case, others around her DON'T see or hear these things and Kay is wondering if she's losing her mind....so she contacts Barnaby Jones for help.

This is one of the better and more cruel episodes of "Barnaby Jones". My wife and I both thought it was very well made and quite compelling. Well worth your time.

A BIT OF THE MACABRE FOR BARNABY!

Leo Penn, Sean Penn's famous dad, was just the right director for this mini thriller. Penn was a master of cop shows for years. He was everywhere.

I agree with the last reviewer, this is an excellent whodunit which will keep your attention. Shirley Knight plays a woman named Kay who lost her daughter and subsequently was confined to a mental hospital due to depression. She has made a recovery... only now to be hearing and seeing creepy things, all related to her late daughter. Naturally, no one knows what she is talking about. You know where this is going...

Just a touch of Hitchcock is in this one, and it's something to watch. Great supporting cast with Quinn Redeker (as Vincent) and 50s sci-fi star Kenneth Tobey as the sheriff. He really looks the part. Tobey's signature role was in THE THING (1951), perhaps the best sci fi ever produced, and one of the very first. Christian Nyby directed, who later headed many cop shows.

This episode featured a very good role for Shirley Knight, who was selective about her appearances at the time. Actually, she preferred to work on Broadway. It may have been inspired by her Oscar nominated performance in THE DARK AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS (1960). In this film, her boyfriend attempts suicide. Watch for this film.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 19 remastered CBS dvd box set.

A REAL Mystery
WYAdams7 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is excellent because it breaks the tired old mold of most Barnaby Jones episodes and gives the viewer a real mystery. It is not immediately obvious who the culprit is. And we are led down a couple of wrong paths with false clues before we finall learn the identity of the real culprit.

Even Barnaby did not solve the mystery until the very end, arriving just in time to save the victim.
