Too Strained

While it had a few funny moments, this one didn't click with me. Bob's sudden announcement that they are going to get a baby was pretty much out of the blue. There is this house party on the first floor and it is a tiresome Seventies sort of thing. If I lived in that building I would consider it purgatory to associate with those folks. Anyway, it's the old we really ought to have children because everyone else seems to have one reasoning. It is speculated that this was actually a pilot episode and it seemed just that dusty. I have to say that I have been really hesitant about this first season. I saw all these shows in their first incarnation, and they are, so far, quite forgettable. I know it gets better eventually.

Childless Freaks Struggle with Supply Chain

Warning: Spoilers
Interesting to see the Hartleys confront their logical choice to avoid parenthood. They have a really nice life and part of that appeal is never schlepping a gaggle of squealing kids around (or even one cute one to make wise with the cracks). I am using the spoiler warning for the rare-as-a-unicorn person who may watch this but doesn't know the Hartleys never turn that den into a nursery? It seems they're fresh out at the baby warehouse.

Why is it called P-I-L-O-T? Only makes some sense if this is the pilot episode that somehow got sorted into the middle of first season in syndication. Why the over hyphening? I didn't hear anyone spelling this word out - did I miss that?

Why does Emily suddenly have Loretta Lynn's hair? If this was filmed earlier, then she decided to go shorter by the time the show is picked up. She looks 500% better with the shorter hair.

Odd when our couple feels for one moment they may be judged harshly because they claim to not smoke (disgusting habit). I've read Emily in real life was a heavy smoker. There's a habit that made her voice sultrier and her life shorter than they should have been.

This should go into everyone's instant classic category for the parts for Louse Laser and M Emmitt Walsh. Walsh plays his typical character perfectly in his brief time and Laser plays a part far from how I remember her.

I'm glad the Harteys stayed childless. Another way to say "The wrong people become parents" is "More people should remain childless."
