The story of a Mexican crook and his woman he loves. There are just a few elements that are hard for viewers to understand thus nine rather than 10 stars!

Good acting but too slow

Warning: Spoilers
The last scene culminates in a shootout which was pretty cool, but it seemed like it took forever to get there. However, as in every episode, the Cartwrights come out on top with a lesson learned! I miss them all.

A splinter group from THE Comancheros?
bkoganbing23 June 2015
Henry Darrow as a Comanchero bandit and Gregory Walcott as leader of that band are the guest stars in this Bonanza episode where these Comancheros who seem a whole lot like a splinter off the large army that Nehemiah Persoff led in the John Wayne classic The Comancheros.

In its 7th season already Bonanza was getting a bit stale in the story ideas. Darrow is wounded and captured by Lorne Greene and he's got the loot from a bank job in Virginia City where some beloved citizens have been killed. Even Little Joe is all for lynching Darrow.

So Ben Cartwright has the dual responsibility of guarding Darrow until trial and also keeping Walcott from getting his spoils from the job. Walcott is not squeamish about his methods and he doesn't even think highly of Darrow, he's simply one of those inferior types whose useful when he's riding with him, but for little else.

Darrow's conversion is really a bit much to swallow. Not one of the better Bonanzas.

politically correct already back then
Thomas0016 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Here is the politically incorrect version of the story: former confederate soldier, the "bad guy", recruits a Mexican, "the victim" to rob and kill for the bad guy's benefit. As an incentive to the victim (the Mexican), the bad guy (the confederate) threatens to kill the victim's wife, very pretty lady in bright yellow blouse, speaking with heavy accent and - of course - expecting. What possible ending could there be? The victim becomes the hero and saves the day (with Joe's help, of course) the bad guy has to die and Ben gets to have the final words of wisdom. Another reviewer here thought that Bonanza was running out of good material, and he is right.
