Dubbing

This is a mediocre entry using stock footage, (probably from 1951's 'Distant Drums' from which we get the famous "Pvt. Wilhelm Scream'). Bronco leads a poorly selected troop of soldiers first across a desert, then an adjacent swamp, (where would that be?), to capture a deserter who made off with Army payroll money many years before. In charge is his son, who grew up hating him and he's in charge of men who want the money for themselves. The deserter has become a medicine man for the local Indian tribe, (where did he get the modern medical supplies he uses?). He's also acquired an assistant - the daughter of a deceased missionary, played by the attractive Nina Shipman, all dolled up in a 1960's hairdo, who falls for the man in charge.

What interested me is that all the voices seemed to be dubbed, even though all the scenes were clearly done in a studio or the back lot. What interested me even more was that, while the actors we see seem to have done their own dubbing, Kent Smith's voice is clearly being done by Mike Road, a deep-voiced, handsome and charismatic actor who should have had a bigger career and who will appear in the very next episode of this series. Kent Smith had a distinguished career and had a fine voice of his own. Why replace it with Mike Roads'?

The likely reason is that the original sound recording was faulty for some reason, (perhaps having to do with a limited budget so late in the series), so everything had to be dubbed and Smith wasn't available for the dubbing session, so Roads was brought in.

His voice is discernable in other episodes in which he doesn't appear. This may have led to a career as a voice-over narrator, (Bell Telephone documentaries) and cartoon characters (Johnny Quest). Robert Colbert did some of this kind of dubbing for Warner's series, as well. If you were under contract, you did what Jack Warner told you to do.
