Conan meets Karella, queen of thieves. She pushes him into a river to make clear who rules this part of the land. Conan expects her to try and steal his precious Atlantean sword, but she gives it back to him without further quarrel. Conan is searching for the magician Yara who abducted his girlfriend Tamira, but the wizard asks for a high price in exchange: a jewel called the Heart of the Elephant, which gives power to Yara. Yet the queen of thieves is also interested in the jewel and has no intention to let Conan have it...
Great fun to see Conan and Karella fighting in a complicated love/hate relationship, and she begs the huge muscle-man: If you are lying on top of me, at least lean on your elbows".
