Upton is nervous at the prospect of his first operation. After going through the rigmarole of sterilisation - including putting gloves on - he enters the theatre. Accidentally brushing past Loftus, he loses sterility and is made to go back and do the whole thing all over again.
In his room, he has a Fellini-like nightmare in which he is in theatre and sees a surgeon's glove flapping about like a bird, Dave's new girlfriend Ingrid ( Kirsten Lindholm ) with the words 'Cut Along The Dotted Line' written on her body, and a sea of outstretched hands.
Dick and Duncan decide to help out their friend...
You really feel for Mike in this episode. Who would not faint at the sight of exposed internal organs? Not to mention Professor Loftus barking like a demented seal.
Ingrid is played by Danish actress Kirsten Lindholm, whose other credits include 'The Persuaders!' and the Hammer Horror flick 'The Vampire Lovers' ( 1971 ).
When Mike switches on the telly to take his mind off medicine, the first thing he sees is an advert for British beef. Changing channels, he finds he is watching the popular B.B.C. medical drama 'Dr.Finlay's Casebook'. No escape from work it seems.
Funniest moment - a nervous Upton enters the operating theatre, gazing upwards to avoid looking at the patient's innards. Loftus snaps: "He's on the table, not the ceiling!".
