Christmas Is Where the Heart Is (#5.11)

Warning: Spoilers
Being stuck in the subway seems to be popular in 90's sitcoms. And in this one it also happens on Christmas! Carl breaks the present he has for Harriet and goes shopping with Steve.

On the way back Carl thinks that nothing could get worse, but unfortunately it can: they get stuck on Christmas in the subway with a slightly unpleasant crowd!

I liked the characters they found for the subway scene, all made me laugh! And Urkel was sweet as he always is, managed to make even subway Christmas nice.

The scene where Richie was making money by telling where presents are was pretty good as well

Not so Merry Christmas

Warning: Spoilers
This is not only underwhelming as a Christmas episode, but underwhelming in general. A Christmas episode, yet there is no interaction between Steve and Laura. At the beginning of the episode, Steve is wrapping a gift. Not for Laura, but for Eddie. Steve never even mentions Laura, anywhere in the episode. Instead, we get Steve and Carl stuck on a subway train, during a snow storm. The people on the train were unpleasant, unlikeable, and completely unengaging. Steve managed to lift everyone's spirits and get them to see the meaning of Christmas. That was nice, but it didn't impress me, since I didn't care about any of these characters. There was a clear effort to make this episode not about Steve and Laura. That wasn't good. How Steve and Laura relate to each other is always interesting. How Steve related to a bunch of idiots on a subway train didn't interest me at all.
