Bud miscalculates
wrxsti5419 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
While out testing water in the lagoon Flipper alerts the Ricks to the presence of a rare albino (or white) dolphin and also a potential poacher intent on capturing the white dolphin. Flipper leads Porter to the poacher's boat and stops him from netting the albino.

Back at home Bud frets about the man stealing the white dolphin and Porter reassures Bud that the best course of action is to have the albino in protective custody at the Seaquarium. Bud can't sit and do nothing so Sandy urges him to go out and protect the white dolphin.

Bud is lured in by the poacher who invites him on his boat by at first befriending him then threatens Flipper and the white dolphin with harpooning if Bud doesn't persuade Flipper to bring the albino to him. After refusing Bud is locked below the boat but Bud smashes a porthole glass and gets Flipper to get Porter and Sandy resulting in a remorseful potential thief. Porter is able to rescue the white dolphin (interesting file footage of the netting of a white dolphin) and Bud talks Porter out of arresting the poacher.

The episode takes an intriguing twist at the end when it transpires that the white dolphin mated with Flipper to produce a pup who hangs with Flipper right outside the Seaquarium! Interestingly this episode features Porter smoking a pipe in two scenes - something not seen before or after.

Two dolphins
mitchrmp9 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
A White dolphin discovered by Flipper swims in the ocean. Bud shows his own glowing personality of love towards animals - especially dolphins - in this episode when he begs his father to do everything he can to protect the white dolphin. Of course, Porter has to have a heart-to-heart talk with his son, which is quite moving and results in a hug from his youngest son.

Another touching moment is near the end when Bud makes an educational discovery on just who the white dolphin is - and who Flipper is. That and the father-son scene are my favorite part. I also like that in this one, the "bad" guy learns his lesson and changes his ways.

Flipper Gets Frisky

Flipper summons Ricks (Brian Kelly), Sandy (Luke Halpin), and Bud (Tommy Norden) to save his new friend, a rare albino dolphin, from capture by Joe Morrison (as Jed Harvey). Ricks stops Mr. Morrison from netting the white dolphin, but he is still worried about the rare albino's safety - if the dolphin leaves Coral Key's cove, he could be legally trapped by Morrison, or another thug. Ricks decides to contact Dan White (as Captain Bender) for help; and, the two men go out to search for the white dolphin. Meanwhile, Morrison lures Bud to his boat, hoping the boy will lead him to the dolphins.

The white dolphin is a great visual. In this episode, Flipper is revealed as having recently been a father - an event which should have made a much, MUCH better story than the one delivered. Morrison is a memorable guest star; but, he is far too likable a villain.

*** The White Dolphin (2/13/65) Marshall Thompson ~ Brian Kelly, Tommy Norden, Luke Halpin
