Sister Bertrille and the law
JordanThomasHall26 September 2018
Officer Juarez (Gregory Sierra, "Barney Miller", "Sanford and Son") pulls over Sister Bertrille for running a red light. When he sees it is her he passes it off as nothing to the surprise of young Marcello (Manuel Padilla Jr.) who is traveling with her. When the parking meter expires Officer Juarez puts in the money for her and proceeds to move her car when it is parked in front of a hydrant. Sister Bertrille is concerned about the message it would send to Marcello and insists he write her a ticket. Great backlash occurs from Carlos, who has just been robbed, and the citizens on the sidewalk. When Officer Juarez asks his girlfriend Dolores (Mercedes Alberti) to marry him, she angrily turns him down over writing a ticket to a nun. Letters flow into the convent with money for the fine. Picketing is planned. Reverend Mother Placido is upset by the turn of events. Mayor Salvador Calderon (Julio Medina) feels the situation will ruin his chance of re-election, as the newspaper has run a scathing article over the ticket. In court, the judge (Lew Palter) also passes the ticket off, fearful of his position, but Sister Bertrille pleads guilty and is fined. When Sister Bertrille can't pay she is sentenced to two days in jail. Her cellmate Rosita (Lisa Gaye) is suspicious of Sister Bertrille and thinks she is a plant to confess details of her boyfriend's alleged casino robbery. While in the compound a gust of wind takes Sister Bertrille away unseen and she is considered escaped. Her return gives Rosita a new perspective.
