Line cut from FETV airing
Glenn_L29 August 2020
A wonderful episode. I saw it many years ago on another channel. But when it aired last night on FETV cable, Sister Sixto's line where she misread the silent picture caption "damsel" as "dam sel" (which sounded like "damn self") was cut. Could it be because the channel also airs religious programming? That is why I gave it only 9 stars instead of 10. I mean, this was 1969, not 1939 when the actual "d" word spoken in "Gone With The Wind" drew a $5000 fine.

The Mother General's Movie
JordanThomasHall26 September 2018
Mother General Adelaide (popular 30s film actress Miriam Hopkins in her last TV role) has asked Convent San Tanco to help raise funds to build a school on the nearby island of Culebra. They collect items for a rummage sale. In looking with the sisters through an old movie magazine Mother General Adelaide seems to know a great deal of insight and slips that she was movie star Gloria Davenport. When sound came the sound of her own voice frightened her so much that she retired. Sister Bertrille comes up with a fundraising idea of selling tickets to see a Gloria Davenport silent movie with Gloria Davenport. She sends for the film "Lure of the West" from the collection of NYC's Museum of Modern Art. Leonardo, who works at Carlos' casino is a huge Gloria Davenport fan and helps with the promotion for the event. When the film arrives Carlos screens it for Sisters Bertrille, Jacqueline, Sixto, and Reverend Mother Placido who all break down and laugh at the film's unintentional comedy. Carlos points out the problem it will cause, but Leonardo has already sold all the tickets. The problem seems solved when the mother general is forced to leave on business, but reappears when she returns in time for the event.

A nice, solid offering.
