Charles Boyer stars in this episode of "Four Star Playhouse". He plays Mr. Montaigne, a very rich man who owns a shipping line. However, he is an intense businessman--one who wants to be in charge and it's killing him. Although his doctor has demanded he take time off and rest for the sake of his heart, Montaigne cannot stop working and worrying. Fortunately, his attention is diverted when he notices a young boy and his mother on the beach near his home-- and he finds himself watching them each day. Eventually, he sums up the courage to talk to them and becomes friends with the boy. Later, he becomes friends with the mother as well. Sadly, however, he learns that the boy's father has kidnapped him despite a custody order. BUT, the husband turns out to be a captain on one of Montaigne's boats--and Montaigne decide to pull out all stops to find the boy. See what happens next, as it's quite bittersweet and satisfying.
I have noticed that most of the Charles Boyer appearances on this show are similar--with him playing a man you can't help but like and who is usually having problems with loneliness. This one, like most of the rest, ends well and is well worth seeing. In fact, it's one of the best in the series due to fine writing and acting all around- -with many familiar faces playing supporting character in the show (such as Will Wright and Hayden Rourke).
By the way, this is NOT a complaint but an observation about the changing times. In the show, the mother surprisingly lets her son go to Montaigne's house without even knowing the guy! Today, I cannot see such a thing occurring or, if it did, Children's Services and the police might get involved!
