When a Bad Play Becomes a Good Play
JordanThomasHall25 September 2017
Claymore Gregg (Charles Nelson Reilly) pitches the idea for a community theatre to Mrs. Muir (Hope Lange) to be held in the former cod liver oil factory building he now owns. He wants to star her in the first production and she finally consents. Her housekeeper Martha (Reta Shaw) will be managing everything behind the scenes. Captain Gregg (Edward Mulhare) feels acting is undignified and grows lonely with everyone gone from the house. He pops in at the play's rehearsal, unseen to all, and prevents Mrs. Muir from being kissed by Norrie (Dabbs Greer) and has Deke (Mason Curry) hit Claymore with a glue brush. Mrs. Muir and Martha realize how bad the play is and hope for a way to make it better. On opening night things go comically awry- in a good sense.
