"Anatomy of a Bride" is one of the poorest episodes I can recall from "Hawaii Five-O". While the basic story idea isn't bad, the show had way too many coincidences and a really dumb ending to make it worth seeing.
The show begins with a building complex ablaze (this film was recycled from a show several seasons earlier concerning an arsonist who frames a reformed firebug). The contractor soon gets a phone call--telling him to immediately go to a safe house and wait so the police won't catch him. It turns out that the place was made of such sub-standard materials that the electrical system caught fire--and several people were killed. Five-O investigates to try to find the contractor as well as discover which building inspector approved the job. However, the mastermind behind all this starts eliminating loose ends--and Five-O needs to hurry before he has literally gotten away with murder.
Until near the end, this wasn't a bad episode at all. However, TWICE complete coincidences were tossed into Five-O's lap to help them stop the witness from being murdered. First, a police helicopter just happened to notice two guys who MIGHT be the killer and his intended victim--even though they were not in a location where the police would expect them. Second, Five-O arrives the exact second the killer pulls out his gun and is about to kill for the second time. Too coincidental? You betcha. But what makes it worse is that out of the middle of no where comes a silly back story that was 100% unnecessary for the plot--adding a goofy psychotic edge to a story that had previously shown zero evidence of being about revenge or insanity. This was completely out of left field and the entire last 10 minutes seemed very contrived and dumb. Sad to watch, really, if you are a fan of the series.
