For quite some time, McGarrett is Clu-less.

One problem with any series that airs for a long time like "Hawaii Five-O" is that it's common to have a 'been there/done that' feeling about many later episodes. They can't help but repeat themselves with hundreds of shows. And yet, here with "Assault on the Palace" in Season 9, they still managed to come up with something wildly creative--even if it was not a perfect episode.

The show begins like many--with a brutal murder. Then, the murderer (Clu Gulager) shows up for a meeting with various community leaders as well as the Governor and McGarrett. It seems that the killer is a museum director and he's supposed to be coming up with details of an upcoming parade. Now why would such a person commit murder?! I'd say more, but considering that it might spoil the show, I'll just leave it at that.

While it is an interesting coincidence that this show featured an evil museum director, otherwise it's pretty novel. Sure, there are a few glitches here and there I could pick at (such as the plot itself--which is a bit far-fetched--especially with McGarrett going along with such a ruse) but there is much more to like (such as the witness who didn't want to be involved--a nice touch) and it seemed to breath some life into the series. Worth seeing.

Anything with Clu Gulager, is good.

This episode is very original.

Costumes and parade, are worth watching.

Nice touch with the witness, no acting experience.

Taxi Joe, Donald Reisner, was in Season 8 also, Turkey Shoot.

I like the other reviewers * Clu less"
