McGarrett nearly buys the farm...
planktonrules3 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This show begins with McGarrett nearly being killed by a bomb installed in his car. The bomb detonates but instead of killing him, he is blinded—possibly for life. Unfortunately, since this was the longest running cop show up until "Law & Order", the viewer knows that by the end of the show Steve will be 100% fine.

Much of the show concerns McGarrett's difficulties coping with his injury as well as the relationship he has with his nurse, played by Marion Ross. Most of this is pretty interesting though a tad melodramatic. The rest of the show is about the police investigation of the crime—which is important since the would-be killer is still at large. What makes this interesting is that the identity of the man is a mystery and he's not the type person you'd expect to try to kill the chief of this police organization.

Overall, a pretty good episode with only one failing. In the final fight between a blind McGarrett and the assassin, Ms. Ross mostly just stands there while the men are trying to kill each other. When the assassin drops his gun, she doesn't turn on the light and pick it up or bonks him over the head. Instead, in a silly melodramatic move, she yells instructions to Steve about how to find the guy in the dark! It's all pretty silly but otherwise not a bad show.
