Not a favourite, but a decent telling of a famous scandal.

Rumours have been rife throughout history that Queen Elizabeth I had an affair with married subject, Robert Dudley, The Earl of Leicester, unpopular at court and untrusted, Dudley's wife dies in very suspicious circumstances.

I'll be honest, I don't care a great deal for this episode, the charm with this series, is that the crimes are often shocking and sometimes a little obscure, this however is a very well known story, it's been portrayed several times better in my opinion.

I don't care for the production of this one, I feel it looks a little bit cheap, the costumes don't look right somehow, nor do the sets.

It is a fascinating story however, I'm just not that sure it fits into the series particularly well. It could have done with a few more cast members, Elizabeth's Court looks incredibly sparse, and a little on the small side.

There's a particularly fine cast here, including Helen Baxendale and Greg Hicks, plus there's the bonus of seeing Edward Woodward's real life son here.

Edward Woodward sounds like he's got a big of a cold during his introduction.

6/10.

An Evil Business

It looks like the producers have run out of salacious stories from the Victorian era. They go back to the Elizabethan epoch.

Even Edward Woodward looks bored in this one.

Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester is romantically linked to Queen Elizabeth I (Helen Baxendale.) Only he is married to sickly Amy Robsart. Dudley regards his wife as a nuisance. An impediment to any marriage to Elizabeth.

In 1560 while Dudley was at the Queen's court. Amy was found dead with a broken neck.

Could it had been an accident, suicide, or murder. Dudley's manservant Tamworth was later handsomely rewarded by Queen Elizabeth. Dudley never lived down the scandal surrounding his wife's death.

I was struck by how clean everyone were. The clothes, the teeth. Apart from the two old ladies out filming when it was raining.
