This has got to be the weirdest, most surreal episode of HOTN ever. From the weird inane babbling dialog, the Van "Gohlem" chicken painting, the crazy flashback scene tilted camera angles, the constant callbacks to the inane chatter inserted into additional inane chatter, the entire insane story... *deep breath* ... It's weird.

Pat Hingle makes the second of two appearances as David Hart's rogue of a stepfather. Hingle has arrrived with a new lady love Anne Meara who looks a
little like she's past her floozy stage, but she's keeping up a brave front.
An old friend of Carl Weathers, Taurean Blacquee who is an insurance investigator and is after both a stolen painting from Van Gogh and a noted art thief Robert Brown. The idea is nab him withthe goods tomake it stick.
In this episode which leans to the comical unusual for In The Heat Of The Night, let's say that Hingle is batting way out of his league.. Hingle and Meara are quite memorable though
