Larry (Garry Shandling at his angsty neurotic best) has trouble not only coping with his divorce with second wife Jeannie, but also with the pressure to keep his floundering show appealing to a mass audience.
This rip-roaring two-parter pegs Larry's whiny and self-absorbed nature with unsparingly caustic acuity. His personal assistant Beverly (the wonderful Penny Johnson) in particular really gets put through the ringer and even winds up in bed with Larry. The attempts by Hank (the always terrific Jeffrey Tambor) to set Larry up with some ladies are especially hilarious. Ditto Larry's disastrous dinner dates with guests Helen Hunt and Dana Delany (the latter rebuffs Larry's advances). It's also a treat to see Arthur (Rip Torn tearing into his juicy bulldog role like a boss) with his hands full dealing with both Larry and his wayward sons. Kathryn Harrold contributes a sharp turn as Larry's feisty first wife Francine. Spot-on acidic stuff.
