A clash of tactics.

Sam is trying to do everything by the book, the modern day book, Gene Hunt has his own book, an error by Sam may have caused a serious injury.

It's hilarious, it's intriguing, and the numerous clashes between Sam and Gene are wonderful, they're realistic, but almost cartoon like, but always incredibly entertaining.

It's a brilliant episode, it really is so much fun, we are treated to a fine story, and lots of intrigue around Sam's situation, the Mystery deepens, we're clueless as to why Sam is there, and so is he. Sam only seems to have Annie to confide in.

I'm in disagreement with my fellow reviewer here, I thought this was terrific, 9/10.

Proper Telly

This is what all fantasy TV should strive to be.

Acting, story, characters, tension, mystery, motivations... and in this episode a moment of sheer cultural terror.

Everything about this show exudes class. My eldest daughter was born the year this was made and she is now 16 years old. In all that time, this show has not lost one erg of its energy and prowess...

This is a gold standard that the US version tried and abjectly failed to emulate.

A lot of fun

After a lot of set up in the first episode, which all shows have to do, 'Life on Mars' settles into a bit of a natural rhythm, with the time travel element running alongside the cop show format, which sees Hunt and Tyler attempt to solve a crime in their own very different ways.

This is another good episode of the much loved show, that deserves the acclaim it gained at the time of broadcast.
