It was a relief to see another serious story line after the previous yuck-fest about Pete and Pedro (yuck!).
The Lone Ranger is, well, the Lone Ranger. I don't watch it expecting much in the way of intensity; I just love the basic premise of good guy-bad guy; and I get that in this episode.
The big surprise--and what a surprise!--is seeing Kenneth MacDonald in the good-guy role as a member of the U.S. Bureau of Indians who assists the Lone Ranger and Tonto is bringing the bad guys to justice. MacDonald was all over the B movies and early television as a western bad guy (and let's not forget his great contributions to the Three Stooges shorts). Imagine my surprise, watching this episode, when I finally realized that, hey, he's in league with the Masked Man!
Sure, eventually he also became one of THE judges in Perry Mason; but by and large, this wonderful actor earned his bread as a villain with class.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable episode.
