Sad Freddie is a habitual burglar who finds a corpse while attempting to steal from her house. His wife Ernestine was a prostitute in her younger days and knows Maigret.
She visits to report the crime as Sad Freddie has gone into hiding possibly abroad.
Maigret knows that the burglar is no killer. His investigations lead him to a dentist Guillaume Serre (Christopher Benjamin.) A cool customer whose wife is missing, supposedly she has gone to Amsterdam, the country of her birth.
The dentist is a skinflint and has repaired his own window twice. His wife's correspondence reveals that her elderly mother in law is domineering leading to a poisoned relationship between the three of them in the household.
A methodical episode. There is no body but a suspicions that the dentist's wife is murdered. So it is all about the interrogation and almost everyone at the police station has a crack at questioning the dentist.
Two episodes in and there is a lack of action so far in the stories. It is still a little dry. Thankfully the second episode was shorter.
Also noticeable, that the series is shot abroad but in Hungary instead of France. Maybe the first episode just had a few establishing shots in Paris.
