This is an episode of the now rarely seen fourth season of this show, which started out in 1953 as "Make Room For Daddy". This was the season after Jean Hagen left the show and Danny Williams is now a widower, trying to raise his kids by himself but thinking of finding a second wife and a mother for his kids. In this episode, Danny is very serious about a woman played by Ann Lee, until she talks about sending the children off to school so that they wouldn't be in their way during their marriage. That takes care of her. Watching this reminded me of how good this show was. I usually hate wise-cracking kids but Sherry Jackson, (just now maturing into a beauty), and Rusty Hamer are terrific here, as is the script. I like comedies that can switch from humor to drama smoothly and this show is one that can. It was an amazing thing to kill off Danny's first wife, (in an accident- I think it took place aboard ship-and in between seasons), in a family sitcom but it opened up a new vein of humor as Danny tries to figure out how to be both father and mother to his kids while searching for love himself. He opened it up for the widower fathers in future shows like the Andy Griffith Show. This was, for a lot of baby-boomers, their first confrontation with mortality.
