THE NOSE KNOWS ALL TOO WELL!
tcchelsey14 February 2024
You couldn't beat the combination of ace director Stanley Z. Cherry (with such a cool name!) and series writer Joel Kane to come up with this nutty episode, undoubtedly borrowed from a BOWERY BOYS movie!

True, Bob Denver is not Huntz Hall, but it's impossible not to laugh. This is over the top stuff.

Maynard is the star attraction, who has developed an extraordinary sense of smell? This all came about from Professor McGuffy (Charles Lane), whose discussion about animals with unique senses of smell has influenced Maynard --with an incredible, new talent?

Comes a colossal idea! Dobie decides to go into the "lost and found business," special thanks to Maynard. All customers have to do is tell him what they lost, and Maynard will follow his nose and find it. A million dollar idea!

UNFORTUNATELY. Jealously and greed rears its ugly head --or rather Elspeth (Yvonne Craig), who snags Maynard and tries to start her own business, minus Dobie. What a nasty thing to do!

Fun scene has Maynard find a missing husband --via smell, who is sitting (in disguise) on a park bench. Amazing.

Will Elspeth's devious scheme work? And how long will Maynard's unique nose last? Hint: Hope he doesn't get a cold!

Another outrageous episode, and extremely well acted on the part of Bob Denver. Good support by crusty Charles Lane and his pet beagle, and pre-BATGIRL Yvonne Craig, at her sultry best.

The story is quite similar to the classic Bowery Boys film, JUNGLE GENTS (1954), where Sach develops the unique talent of smelling diamonds!

Not to be missed, and certainly one of the more creative episodes.

From SEASON 3 EPISODE 28 remastered.
