Crockett & Crockett
Tweekums16 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This, a lighter hearted episode, opens with a man fleeing through a shopping mall; he ducks into a clothes shop and buys a change of clothes with an invalid credit card… this gets him away from his pursuers but also gets him arrested. Once in custody he claims to be working undercover for the FBI and gives the police the number for his contact… Crockett! It turns out the man is Crockett's cousin Jack; a man who has been involved in any number of shady deals and who owes $50,000 to somebody who will do him serious harm if he doesn't pay him back soon. His idea to get the money quickly just makes matters worse as he steals it from somebody even more dangerous. As he struggles to extract himself from the situation Sonny gets dragged in and put in danger as well.

Usually the lighter episodes are led by a secondary character like Switek but here the lead detective is series protagonist Sonny Crockett… although here his actions are mostly those of a man helping his cousin rather than those of a police officer. Guest star David Andrews did a decent job as Jack Crockett and Don Johnson showed that he can do more comedic episodes without it seeming that Crockett is acting out of character. There isn't a huge amount of action; just the opening chase, a few beatings and a couple of shootouts; these are fun enough though. This might not be a classic episode bit it is rather fun.

Entertaining Episode....

...but the music!! It was horrible. It sounded like something from a movie made in the late 1960s. Great to see so much Crockett, and also the bonus of seeing "Paulie" from Crime Stories.

The writer's strike, strikes this series

Warning: Spoilers
Michael Mann; "Ok guys, we got no money. We gotta finish this season up with what we got left over. Let's dig up some old clips and hack a story together. We can get some quick money from Budweiser if we show Sonny drinking it and maybe show the can prominently throughout the episode. So where's Ian Hammer?" Editor; "We didn't pay him for the last five episodes, so he quit!" Michael; "What are we going to do about music then?" Editor; "I don't know.... Hey! We've got some Public Domain vocal stuff that will cost us nothing!" Michael; "You are a genius!"
