Bait to catch a serial killer
Tweekums27 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This episode opens with Crockett recording a video for a dating agency that the vice squad believe is being used by prostitutes to find potential clients. That isn't all it is being used for though; unbeknownst the police somebody is using it to find murder victims. The first body is found while Crockett is recording his video and whoever the killer is they don't like the men using the site… the victim has been badly mutilated. It isn't long before more victims turn up along with an FBI agent who has been following the killer through several states. It just so happens that all the victims share a similar profile to Crockett so he gets to be bait… something Caitlin isn't too pleased about. The first couple of dates turn out to be unconnected to the murders but it looks as if the third could put Sonny in real danger.

This wasn't a bad episode although it did have a feeling of series one or two about it. I'd feared that Crockett getting married might lead to more domestic scenes and there were plenty here although the conclusion suggested that the writers are trying to avoid this problem by having Caitlin leave Miami for her music business… I just hope that doesn't mean Crockett will be moping about her being away! The story here was decent with some twists; including an amusing one where Crockett thought one of his dates had a knife in her hand when it was really a silver vibrator… I didn't expect to see that in an '80s network show! Notable guest stars in this episode included Lori Petty and '80s supermodel Iman.

Great actresses cast
Besmircher23 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
While Sheena Easton is ok in this episode, the real actresses who shone were not only Iman but also the ever-interesting Lori Petty. Iman did a great job portraying the psychological turmoil toward the end of the episode that normally indicates Dissociative Identity Disorder. A tad bit sensationalized but I give Iman credit for pulling off a captivating performance in her limited screen time, which is not easy.

However, while I applaud Iman's work, I was much more captivated by Lori Petty's role as "Carol", a BDSM-ish type. Her scenes with Crockett in the bar and then at her home were so commanded by her performance that she outshined Johnson's Crockett. I came away with the feeling that I would have loved to see a future episode with Petty reprising her Carol character; this would have made for a top episode. But alas, MV didn't have too much farther to go before ending its run.

I don't know how this could have been executed but it would have been an interesting episode with Petty's Carol being pursued by Gina and/or Trudy for whatever crimes. Basically a Basic Instinct type arc before the actual movie. I think a women's arc (2-part series) with Gina, Trudy and Carol would work. Not sure how Easton would fit it, perhaps not, as she's not on the level of Petty. But Easton's a singer, not an actress, so it's forgivable.

Would a drug dealer please put a hit on Sheena Easton!
frankenbenz10 August 2007
This episode felt like a rip-off of Brian De Palma at this worst...and since De Palma always rips off Hitchcock, the old man must be having fits in his over-sized grave.

Don Johnson directed this 'thriller' that for some reason has vice cops trying to entrap a serial killer. Sounds scary doesn't it? No. And it's not. If it wasn't for POV shots that continue to mislead the viewer I don't know what they would have done to fill the time to get this one in the can...oh wait, how about a 5 minute musical montage of Crockett driving around contemplating marriage crosscut with his wife at home sad and lonely.

Yup, we're back to season 2 & 3 shlock here with thin characterizations and transparent plot lines. All you got to do is check your watch for every plot point before it hits you over the head, that is, if you didn't see it coming from a mile away.

And please, would some revenge mad drug dealer do us all a favor and wack Crockett's wife Caitlin Davies. Every time we're forced to sit through another sappy scene with her and Crockett you can see the ratings sliding downhill.

Creepy, sleazy, crawls-up your skin!
mm-3917 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Love at First Sight is a creepy, sleazy, crawls-up your skin episode. A serial killer is hunting people down via 80's video dating. A very dated episode, the customer has to tape a video and people watch your video at home through their vcr. Sonny Crockett fits the killer's profile and goes deep cover. There are two stories in At First Sight. Crockett has to deal with a suspicious/jealous new wife. The pressures of dealing with sleaze via 50 Shades of Grey style during the investigation takes a toll on Crockett. Miami Vice becomes risky, and loose with the First Sight episode. Realism of Vice squad's dealings is evident. The pressures increase on Crockett via Fatal Attraction style. Who or what will the disturbed individual next? Many twists and turns as the story unfolds. A memorable ending and plot twist for the episode's climax. Eight out of ten.
