Crockett returns
Tweekums28 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This episode starts moments before the previous one ended; but this time we see what happened inside the lighthouse. Crockett, still thinking he was Burnett, recognised Tubbs as a cop and ordered his men to deal with him. Tubbs managed to escape leading to the police deciding that Crockett was now one of the bad guys. It isn't just the cops who are after Burnett; El Gato still wants him dead and his underling Cliff also wants to take over the business. After an attempt on his life nearly blows him up his memory starts to return and he returns to the police station where he is promptly arrested... if he want to clear his name he will have to escape and bring down the organisation he was running!

This was a great conclusion to the amnesia story line although it is a pity it wasn't combined with the previous episode to make a double length season opener. There was plenty of action to be enjoyed including a couple of spectacular explosions. The two main bad guys; Cliff and El Gato were suitably villainous although the latter did come across as somewhat of a pantomime villain at times. The ending is unlikely to be much of a surprise but it was most satisfactory and darkly amusing. Once again Don Johnson does a fine job portraying Crockett; believable depicting his return to being one of the good guys. On the strength of this opening story I'm optimistic that the final series of 'Miami Vice' will be well worth watching.

Another home run!!!

This is the 4th and last episode in, we'll call this, the "bad boy" series. Like the others, this one doesn't disappoint. In my opinion, it wasn't quite as good as the other even though everyone else seems to think it is.

The episode starts off nicely and is great up until the end where it seems rushed and is rather boring. The acting however, by both Johnson and Thomas especially, is some of the best ever in Miami Vice. This is probably where the rave reviews come from. The supporting acting is great also, with most of the guest stars coming back from the last episode. Matt Frewer, does a particularly nice job.

I think the MV crew would have been smart to continue this "bad boy" story until the end of the season, which would have set up a particularly AWESOME season finale. No matter, this was a great one. 2 episodes in to season 5 and I'm loving it.

All Johnson!
mm-3926 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Don Johnson is a great actor! Johnson plays two characters here. Crockett, and Burnett. One evil and one good. Recovering from a brain injury from an explosion the viewer is full of anticipation of how will Crockett get out of the mess! The criminals will kill Crockett for being a cop and the cops will arrest the protagonist for being a criminal. There is many plot twists an turns as Crockett navigates through Redemption in Blood's minefield. There is a love interest which complicates matters even more. A great script, all Johnson driven. Well directed, with strong characters, melding story into style. A memorable Michael Mann ending. Nine out of ten stars. After Redemption in Blood the Crockett character takes a lesser role in the rest of season 5.

Average VICE

Some pretty good stuff here, but it's nearly undone by a poorly-directed opening sequence (at the lighthouse)... nonsensical plot turns (why wouldn't Sonny have been taken to a hospital after the explosion in the parking lot?)... and some incredibly silly dialogue. The biggest whopper of the show: Cliff King's anecdote about the cow, Sandy.

"He produced more milk than all the other cows put together," Cliff explains.

HE produced...?

HE...??

The average third grader knows cows can't be male.

How does a line like this make it from the sound stage to the air, anyway??

Bad acting, bad writing, plot holes... this is one of the worst episodes!
