cheap effects, good martial arts

John shea continues to impress as the mutant leader. there was some clever humour and wit. the computer fx could be greatly improved upon, as i have said before. there is a new villain who doesn't last for long and gets whats coming to her. the lead villain showed both cunning and wit and directness here; he is slowly being developed in necessary ways, which will improve the show. rather than being large scale mutant powers with spectacular consequences, mutant x sprinkles them in then uses some rather good martial arts action that might fit into something like the matrix or crouching tiger hidden dragon, somewhat defying the laws of physics but thrilling nevertheless. it is probably the martial arts i will be watching out for next, to see how the show can impress and see what surprises it can deliver. there are running themes of mutant persecution and self doubt, would have fitted into the x-men series. in some ways this is an x-men knockoff that tries not to be too obvious about it.
