THE COURTSHIP OF STEVE AND BARBARA.
tcchelsey30 March 2024
For all us fans, it took a long, long time to get to this point in the series. Steve eventually had to re-marry, and so the page turned...

10 Stars for 10 unforgettable years.

This is a George Tibbles classic, who wrote over 100 episodes for the show, starting at the very beginning with Steve, Bub and the boys, and in black and white. Remember those days? George also pulled a neat switch here, the story beginning with Katie talking Steve into going on a "blind date" with a nice lady called Millicent, played by Elaine Devry. But things just don't work out.

In the meantime, Steve has to talk to Ernie's teacher, Barbara Harper (enter Beverly Garland) -- and the rest is history. They made a super couple back in the day, and complimented each other so much. This was fun stuff, certainly a ratings grab for the series, now entering its 10th season. Extremely well written and acted. At the time, Beverly Garland had co-starred in the famous cult film, PRETTY POISON, a role totally different than this one, which may have got the attention of producers. It was also one of her favorite films.

By the way, Elaine Devry was no stranger to tv audiences either, making appearances on DRAGNET and PERRY MASON, frequently cast in all the popular Warner Brothers/ABC cop shows. Best known for her marriage to Mickey Rooney in the 50s.

A nice trip down memory lane for all of us, especially for Beverly Garland fans who go back to the days of her cult movies of the 50s. If you ever had the opportunity to visit her famous hotel in North Hollywood, the lobby was decorated with classic movie posters. A classy actress. Stay turned for more. SEASON 10 EPISODE 1 remastered color.
