The Professor's Brother
JordanThomasHall26 June 2017
Dean Henderson (Harry Hickox) has narrowed it down to Professor Everett (Richard Long) and Professor Fairbanks as head of the math department. He asks Professor Everett to take some time to think about the responsibilities before accepting if he's chosen. Despite being secretive, his colleagues know and attempt to celebrate loudly in the cafeteria. The professor is conflicted with the prospect of more money versus the ideas and role he enjoys now. He admires how his wealthy brother Ben (Robert Sterling, "Topper") is a man of action who goes after what he wants. He then magically gets a phone call that Ben is coming to visit. Ben arrives and tells his brother that his wife has suddenly left him without knowing why. Ben visits the dean and donates $2 million dollars to the university with the stipulation the new math wing is named after him. When the professor finds out, he becomes angry and heavily argues with his brother. The professor then goes to Dean Henderson to withdraw his name, but is given surprising news.

Is buying his way through life what the Professor wants?
mlbroberts18 January 2022
The Professor's brother Ben, a multi-millionaire who places his stock completely in business deals and making money, shows up for a visit bearing gifts galore, at a time when the Professor is being considered for head of the mathematics department along with another professor. The Professor hits the roof when he finds out Ben donates $2 million for a new Mathematics building at the university, clearly a move to buy the Professor the department head position because "that's the way deals are made all the time." Things don't work out the way Ben planned, especially when the kids get upset he's leaving early - to them, what good are the gifts if Uncle Bently isn't there to watch them enjoy them?
