Forget Franky goes to Hollywood, Rodney goes to Hospital.

Del decides to convince Lenny, owner of The Shamrock Club to hire Rodney's new band for The Saint Patrick's day celebration, he's also picked up some Taiwanese dolls to sell down the market.

1985 captured in thirty minutes, the style, the music, the clothes, the humour and of course someone on the make, this time it's Del Boy. This wouldn't be the only time that Del would try and make a few quid off a singer, and although this episode isn't quite at the same standard as the other (think Crying...) It's still a real laugh.

Del is once again happy enough to do whatever is necessary to earn a few bucks, he looked immaculate in that suit.

The dolls were hilarious, not the sweet one liners you'd expect a doll to come out with, I think 'exterminate' was perhaps the funniest moment.

Two very well known faces here, Daniel Peacock is good fun as Mental Mickey, perhaps the best known face is the wonderful David Thewlis.

Funny.

8/10.

Send Rodney for the Fish.

Del's gonna manage Rodney's new band, playing drums for Mental Mickey. Whatever could go wrong?

That's only half the screen-time though. One of the best scenes is in the garage in the second half - yet more world-building that is one of the better elements of series 3 and 4.

Some of the jokes land; others not so much, but another satisfying episode of one of the better seasons.

One of the best

This is one of the best Only Fools and Horses episodes. Del tries to take advantage of Rodney's music interest when he finds out that the Shamrock pub is without a band on St.Patrick's Day. So he persuades his band, led by the "charismatic" frontman psycho called Mental Mickey, to play in a really hilarious scene. The gig goes awry and a rumble breaks out. After the game is over, Del tells poor Rodney the truth-he and his band are awful and will never make it, so he has to give up his dreams of becoming a rock star. Unfortunately Del turns out to be wrong as Rodney's band progress without him and score a hit! Rodney has to watch them play Top of the Pops.:P It really is a superb episode and features the then-uknown David Thewlis as one of Rodney's bandmates. Also the actor playing Mental Mickey does a good job. The show however is stolen by David Jason's Delboy as usual. He is simply awesome here.

Rabbit on...

Rodney's rock band dreams of stardom under Del's management.

This is a reasonably good episode with some decent character moments for Del, Rodney, and guest character Mental Mickey.

As always the banter between the Trotter family is good and some dialogue is quite memorable, such as the references to Mum on her death bed. Some moments of rhyming slang would not get past the censors these days, but delivered by David Jason with his usual mannerisms, they work well.

The toughest moments involve Del's cynicism toward Rodney's hopes and aspirations, which portrays him as quite callous. However, as is the case with episodic television, we never heard of this ambition before, so it feels either like a fad of the week for Rodney or just contrived writing.

It's Only Rock and Roll

Warning: Spoilers
This is a so-so episode of the beloved sitcom for me, with the plot never really gelling. It's not an episode I would go back to when rewatching the series from start to finish, and isn't one I really enjoy when I do.

Uncle Albert is bedding in nicely at this stage, but still doesn't feel like the Uncle Albert we would come to know as the sitcom develops.

I didn't like the way that Del Boy treated Rodney towards the end either. There was a harshness and cruelty about his actions that jarred. It's nowhere near at the level he got to in 'A Royal Flush' in 1986 (by far the worst episode of 'Only Fools' ever, though there are other contenders), but he's still not overly nice here.

So yes, a mixed bag episode.
